Lethem was named after an Irish Man, Sir Gordon Lethem, who was once the Governor of British Guiana in the Mid 1940s. Besides the Kaiteur Falls this is another place to visit, mind-blowing scenery. The reason the Brazilian Government built that bridge in Lethem was to provide a mean of their products to reached Guyana and vice versa offers Guyanese products to reach Brazil. Awesome Video.

We took the plane from Ogle Airport to Lethem. Cost US $237 return (July 2012). The original plan was to take the bus from Georgetown but the highway in Linden was closed down due to folks not happy with the rise in electrical rate. Our plan was to travel to Manaus, Brazil and this meant going to Lethem and taking the bus from Brazil Immigration to Boa Vista and a bus from Boa Vista to Manaus. On the way back we also stayed at Takutu Hotel overnight and flight to Ogle the next day.

@@levaydre The bus from Bon FiM to Boa Vista (Hwy BR401) takes 3 hrs if I remember right. Cost Real 18. The bus from Boa Vista to Manaus takes 12 hours and they usually travel overnight, I think to arrive in Manaus by start of business day. Bus from Boa Vista leaves at 6:00PM and 7:00PM, one stop along the way. Bus companies: Amatur and Eucatur. Cost US $128 return. Bus has a washroom on board ad they give you bottled water. AC works overtime in the bus so take a jacket or a light travel blanket. These are beautiful double decker buses. We don't have such nice buses here in Canada.The highway 174/210 is a wonderful paved highway. Who expects a paved highway in the middle of the Amazon jungle? Bus seating is assigned. Taxi from Manaus bus station to downtown by the harbour is Real 40. All the prices I am giving you is as of July 2012. As a side note, I would like to visit Lethem when they have the Rupunini Rodeo in Easter? I hear it is very nice. A bit wild but you only live once.

They need to widen the roadway into 4 lanes and put up speed cameras so whenever the formula one drivers get to the checkpoint, they make them pay the fine, cease the vehicles or jail. What a journey!

Where do you buy tickets for the kurupukari ferry service? I’ve heard you can’t buy tickets at the ferry crossing, you need to buy the tickets somewhere in Georgetown.

check for illegal things going to Lethem? I would think illegal things going into Lethem would come from Brazil, not from someone driving on that hellish road all day and all night!
