We visited Georgetown about a month ago. My GF is from there and we visit her mom every few years. Guyana have its many charms and we enjoy it every time we visit. It's interesting to see a country that NO one really cared about until the discover of BIG OIL. Now all these "Ambassadors" from other countries mainly the US and major companies want a part of Guyana. We stayed at the Marriot and it was teaming with nothing but people from the oil industry and foreign investors. Although the oil is helping with the building of new infrastructure it will also change the charms that is Guyana into just another clone of any US city. There is already talk about Starbucks entering Georgetown not to mention that multibillion dollar gated resort that will be built for all the RIch Foreign oil C.E.Os and investors... Great Video by the way.

Exactly what I am saying. Since the discovery of oil in 2018, it's Guyana this and Guyana that. The same country so many Americans knew about but dis not want to visit because it was only know for the Jonestown tragedy. Which of course was a Caucasian American that went there and our people allowed him to do nonsense. Funny how things can turn

I understand ...y'all can remain in the shit and misery...without any future. I passed by Guyana in 2016 ...it was like being in a wild land no rules, corruption and workers in construction site wearing flip-flops and shorts... people playing music on the road so loud as if everyone would be deaf...no sidewalks at all....no construction codes.. i can say more...people driving with only one rule in mind: Create your one line. First of all, the leaves ( lotus flowers) were brought to Guyana by the Indians after the abolishment of slavery. These leaves are being used up to now by Hindus in their cultural practices. Pakora is an Indian dish . Curry, masala , dhal, tumeric etc. were introduced by Indians. Please visit the Indian people next time you visit Guyana.

I don't get the allure of open air markets with no food safety standards, let alone eating your food off a weed growing along the side of the road. The guide sounded like he was making it up as he went along, just like his "recipes". He kept saying don't try to follow what he is doing because he obviously does not know himself. Curry is an Indian not African dish and that is obviously how it came to the country so getting someone of that background to cook it would have made more sense. I never got the pretentiousness with eating poor people's food in foreign countries made by people who you never see wash their hands and throw ingredients around on cross contaminated or dirty surfaces.👎

Guyanese have nothing to say that the Essequibo territory belongs to you only that fraud of 1899, your evil society and country was created under the mother of all tyrannical and usurping nations like England, your country exists because Venezuela wanted it that way and when they gave independence to guyana, Venezuela very specifically recognizes this new state west of the Essequibo River. Zoch Buppet: Why don’t you take a hike. Always something to gripe about. Guyana is a cosmopolitan country and we integrate each other’s culture and cuisine.

I agree with the previous comments. You have captured the country so with passion and respect especially as you didn't know what to expect. I await in anticipation for the next episode. Where can I find the recipes for the curries? My last visit to Guyana was in 2020 as I am of Guyanese parentage born in London, but I consider Guyana as my home. Well done.

I will be visiting Guyana Georgetown for the first time next month. My mum's side of the family is from Guyana. Is there anything I should know as a first time visitor, places I should visit, good market stalls for fresh fruit and veg, activities, things to be mindful of in order to be safe, best way to travel around, legit taxi services etc Would love to know and would appreciate any tips or suggestions x
