1) you shouldn't move liquids for export via trains , it,s an improvement from Siberian Utopia BUT there is foreign connection that let you export or import liquids via pipes for almost free 2) build a fire station and add some helipads , buy some helicopters and dig a sizable hole near town until you reach water , helicopters will put down fire very fast 3) for transporting a lot of workers , use metro, buses wouldn't cut it 4) always import electricity, so there is always backup . 5) mixing two types of city wouldn't achieve the best results, build cities that rely only on public transportation, or build cities that rely of personal cars ( metro is the best option for moving a lot of workers and busses are the best for moving some workers ) 6) for a challenge i recommend you play with realistic building , BUT i warn you it will be hard , time consuming and boring in some times

also if u use helicopters for fire stations you don't need any workers for them lol. and to feed an oil refinery at full capacity you'll need more than a handful, more like 25 or 30 pumpjacks at 60-70% quality, i have never tried it but you probably can do well importing oil via train or pipeline too. completely cover all the dots in an oil field, even a 5% pumpjack will pay for itself in time. making the roads to the custom office 1-way helps a lot with traffic. and remember there are 3 shifts per workday, so to run a building at full capacity you need to plan to have 3 times the workers the building says it has

Please, don't waste time with dollars. It is a soviet simulator, you're in the USSR, build in rubbles, take loans in rubbles. It makes no sense to play in dollars (apart from importing western tech). Good starting ressources is clothes, they sell around 1k for 1t. You need 5 big farms, each farm has 16 big field(can go up to 20). Silos with traintrack behind the silos, train to city. In city build one big silo who goes to 2 warehouses, each warehouse supplies 4 fabric factory (transforming food to fabric+import of chemicals) and 2 clothes factory. Need 2 separate railway (for efficiency) one for farm to city one for city to export. Starting cost around 4-6m, profit around 250k per month. In just 2 years you get your money back and have a net 250k per month. It is a really good setup. Don't make or export food+alcohol it is cheap the first years the prices are very negligible. After a while price of alcohol go up and you can make 4 alcohol factories to export and make 50-100k plus per month. Good game and have fun kind stranger.
