Meet Mr Bossnut: Talking to Jonny from Calibre about the bargain bike comeback

Calibre have just dropped their new Bossnut and it's a totally different, bang up to date progressive trail bike but still brilliant value for money. I went riding with Jonny and then pointed a camera at him so he could tell us the backstory of the new bike, and all the hoops he's had to jump through to make it such a brilliant package for the price.

Its a shame the xs frame is for minimum height 5"5' . This seems to be an issue across budget brands like Voodoo, Calibre, Polygon. I would like to get an entry level fullsus for my wife (5"2'), but the only viable bike for fit seems to be a Liv Embolden, which has 77.5 HA and a much worse spec than Bossnut. I'm guessing its a manufacturing issue to have a range of reaches from 390-500, being too much outside the bell curve. I do like how the team at Calibre have done their sizing chart, though. They seem to have riders on the smaller bikes for their height than other brands would. Nice bike Calibre, hope you make it in smaller sizes one day.

All the previous Bossnuts were re-speced polygon bikes. The V1, V2 and Evo were the 2014 Polygon Recon frame with a redesigned one piece forged suspension linkage. Fine and I had a V2 which I liked but in all the press there was a lot of 'we designed it' claims which was, at best, disingenuous. This looks very much like a tweaked Sisku frame and rear suspension like the last Bossnuts after the Evo. If it is not made by Polygon then I suspect that this is the next gen Bossnut that that was scuppered by Covid. It looks very similar to a 2020 Sisku T7. They may have bought the design and tooling from Polygon so it can be made elsewhere?
