Costa Rica 2015, part three: birding at the hotel Bosque de Paz

Your Black-cheeked Woodpecker is actually a Hairy Woodpecker. (Note the solid black back and lack of striping on the mantle). The dove resembles a disheveled White-tipped. As for the flycatcher. I don't think that's a Least. Least Flycatchers have large heads and short primary projection. Usually these birds will often twitch their tail. Possibly an Elaenia? The first butterfly appears to be a Two-barred Flasher or a closely related species. The second butterfly is a species of Heliconian.

Hello. Great video. Makes me want to go there. Your Least Flycatcher is really a Mountain Elaenia and the Black-cheeked Woodpecker is the darker Central American race of the Hairy Woodpecker.

Stephen P. What about the Grey Headed Dove, It can't be it since it's range doesn't include Parque Nacional Juan Castro Blanco, I think it's actually a White Tipped Dove Also, Great Video Guy!!!

I agree. White-tipped Dove. Seems eye ring is pale blue. Lacks buffy cheeks of Gray-headed or rusty nape and dark gray chest of Gray-chested.

Thanks for sharing the video. We were there for 3 nights in early March 2012 and had a lot of rain then too. At that time they wee putting corn out at night that attracted agoutis as in your film but also several Pacas (a much larger relative of the agouti) which were the only Pacas I have seen in 5 trips to Costa Rica. I would love to go back there.
