My dad has been using a 119 since the 70’s. Just bought 4 for my hunting buddies, because none of them have a decent fixed blade. IMO everybody needs a good fixed blade.

You are correct! Everyone needs a good fixed blade

Just because it's a classic doesn't make it a good hunting knife. Skinning with that thing? No thanks. Clip point, have to be way more careful to not piece the hide (we brain tan the hides). No belly for smooth processing. It's just not a good choice for skinning and processing.

@@Swearengen1980 whatever you say chief. To each his own. It’s what my dad is used to and what he likes. I like my esee 4 and benchmade hidden canyon hunter.
@Swearengen1980 Жыл бұрын
@@coreysmithsvt I could get use to skinning a squirrel with a bowie, that doesn't make it the best tool for the job. If you're actually a hunter and know that the Hidden Canyon is a far superior skinner than that stupid Buck, why TF would you buy 4 for your "hunting buddies"? So your dad is used to a clip point that's crap for skinning compared to a Nessmuk style or something with a belly, why would you give your friends a poorly designed skinner? Not to mention, if your 4 "hunting buddies" didn't have a fixed blade among them...what kind of city slicker morons are you hunting with? 😂

Recently acquired the ESEE JG-5 from SMKW, myself. I haven't got to do a lot of work with it yet, but I have no doubts it will perform, excellently. I think it is an awesome tool if you use it for its intended purpose. I also own a Buck 119 that I have had since 1993. I have only used it deer hunting, and it has always been an awesome performer. I LOVE SMKW!

Prone is an anatomical position. Supine is laying on your back and lateral recumbent is when you lay on your side.

Buck 537 Open Season is the hunting knife of hunting knives
@Swearengen19804 жыл бұрын
Depends on the size of the game IMO. There's almost nothing I'll kill in Florida that the Buck 113 doesn't take care of. Too many people make the mistake of buying a huge blade and then butcher the hide and meat all to hell. One thing is for certain: Listening to these people break down hunting knives when they clearly don't hunt is a bit painful.

The ESEE JG5 would be great if it was S35VN and not that 1095 crap. The JG5 and AGK are perfect slim Nessmuk's for SE bucks and small game, but 1095 dulls so damn fast skinning a buck it's almost useless. At least they came out with the AGK in S35VN. I'd gladly pay more if they came out with either of these knives in Magnacut. A scandi should never be put on a hunting knife list.

Man that lady has never been in the bush, doesn’t know the prone position doesn’t like a firm sheath fit, doesn’t know why you want a dangler. Should not be selling knives to hunter, woods people or the military. I would not have a dangler in the army but that has to do with noise and movement not comfort. But the other aspects apply.

"Since 1942, the 119 Special has become one of the most relied-upon knives by hunters and outdoorsmen. This fixed-blade hunting knife has a large, hand-sharpened clip blade, which allows for control at the tip with a larger cutting surface at the belly of the blade. The aluminum guard at the base of the blade provides protection for your hand. The handle is built to withstand years of tough work. The knife is finished with an aluminum pommel for a classic look. Includes a black, genuine leather sheath for convenient carry on your belt or in a pack." Buck Knives Pulled directly from their site...of course we use it to fillet our BlueGill...Huge fish lol
