So beautiful It was like the one guy (in the backseat) was not even real. He was the other guy’s inner demons and desires. Was it only one person hiking literally and two people hiking figuratively? Like the main guy tried to punish himself for being gay which is why he tried to choke himself at the end, spill out all the water, get lost, and put dirt in the coffee. Was it all the internal thoughts of one guy thinking about death because he hates who he is which is gay so he hikes to try and walk away from who he is but he can’t. He can’t get down the mountain. What A beautiful display of love and hate for who we are and the inner pain of accepting ourselves.

Righton Brandon: that is the only interpretation that makes emotional sense: the self-hate, the envy of what is unavailable, the masochistic drive of banging your head against the wall, 'cause it feels so good when you stop. This could even be a long dream sequence: his attack on the guys alleged woman friend suggests the intesity of his jealousy...the projection of resentement onto alleged straight writers by posters, the nagging, the complaints, the bitterness...this could all be about his severe depression and the spilling of water, the spilling of ejaculate, the barren emptiness of his existence, the joy he gets from getting himself into these failing stations....the why perhaps of Jewish guys in this clip may also reprsent the self hatred that Jews may have for themselves, as do gays so often. I am gay and Jewish and I can see in so many relatives, Jewish friends, the entrapment in their own constriction...

In matters of sexual attraction, it is better to act without thinking than to think without acting. Once you have bonded intimately, you will have a treasured memory forever. Straight or gay, why can’t film makers portray gay or bisexual men as happy, normal, making good relationships, just getting on with life? Instead of constantly portraying gay men as tragic figures, who are doomed by their sexuality, and guaranteed never to be happy, find love, or be content? It’s an unrepresentative obsession. It’s a boring classic stereotype. And disappointedly formulaic.

Straight Q from a straight girl. WHY do so many gay films involve a gay guy hopelessly in love with his straight - really his bi - friend? When someone doesn't love you back, move on. He doesn't deserve you. Just as movies about AIDS eventually taper off as it becomes a medical situation that is no longer a death sentence, doesn't this unrequited love situation get old, or is it that hard to be creative and come up with something that hasn't been done hundreds of times before? It seems the most intractable form of homophobia is the often repeated message by gay filmmakers that gays can't have a happy ending. Because "everyone knows" ... they're promiscuous, they don't believe in monogamy, they're so into their looks and body, they can never say no to sex whenever anyone attractive looks at them ... on and on. All lovers of great films - and what is not great about two beautiful men who love each other - deserve better than the sad, tragic endings of the overwhelming majority of gay films.

Totally agree. Move on when you fall in love with a gay, straight, bi or married guy who doesn't love you and you find yourself hurt or devastated. It happened to my friend who fell for a straight guy in uni. Because he loved the guy but it didn't reciprocate, they fought and argued a lot. When he finished his course, they hated each other and didn't talk to each other.

One of the most toxic relationships ever depicted in film...blue-shirt guy's little story of hiking with his army buddies foreshadows a decision he'll have to make, and soon...he can either suffer in silence as the "other woman" (die where he was on the hilltop) or take a metaphorical leap of faith with the other guy (taking a literal jump off to safety, risking death) and leaving him...or make him leave her.
