One of the biggest crimes ever committed is that they didn’t continue past episode 12. I remember the sheer disappointment when I found this out. I’ve watched the reboot but it’s in no way comparable to the OVA. The voice acting in this is phenomenal and so raw. Did you know that the voice actors of Sho and Mizuki are actually siblings? Tom Fahn and Melissa Fahn.

It's little touches like that 'GUYVEEERRR' scream at the start of the outro that let you know the people handling this version of the dub really tried their best and knew how to flex the innate mystique and coolness of this utterly unique concept in all the right ways. Even the tense pounding techno theme with the swiping sounds really captures something about it. Ah man, this was the first anime series I ever bought on VHS back in the day and it just blew me away right from the beginning. I had to buy it four episodes at a time and was saddened that it never moved past the cliffhanger of episode twelve, especially with Aptom's apparent death and Commander Guyot's sudden reappearance. Some things you watch when you're young become like a spiritual shrine that no matter how old you are when you visit, you remember it as it was the first time you watched it, and man, Guyver was just the best. My friend and I used to talk about making Guyver costumes using mould-casting - seems like far too much work now haha.

That ending scene is one of the reasons why I will always prefer this version of the series than the 2005 as the soundtrack is amazing and can feel the emotions of the characters, which shows the voice cast did a brilliant job, in my opinion of course. I'm sad as well as disappointed the series ended and wished it had continued.

aptom was a cell before there was a Cell. think about it. he well still be alive as long there's one cell on him he well always come back. but he doesn't get a boost from near death and he needs a host to fully recover and he can easily make a copy of himself. and that right there Cell couldn't do. yes I know Cell can make copies but only from his energy rather his own body parts. and aptom learns how his cells work while Cell was lazy to do it because he was to busy being the top dog. they should come to Eve (from Parasite Eve) for cell controlling advice. >w>

The 2005 anime as whole just felt rushed. I don't know if the creators knew there wouldn't be a 2nd season so they tried to cram as much as they could into the 26 episodes, but there's a good few things in the anime that didn't need to be there and could have made way to give better attention to things in the story that really mattered like Guyver 2 or both Enzyme encounters.

However the animation, voice acting, soundtrack and detail is a bit plain and isn't as good as the 89 version :)

I've been hard pressed to find this episode uncut on the internet as well. The DVDs released by Manga Entertainment include ep 12 uncut but it seems that episode exists in an unedited format only in Japanese and was never dubbed with the full episode intact.

One thing I don't get, yes aptom can transform into any zoanoid as long as he has their cells but how does he turn into guyver 3 in the manga layer down the line aptom trys to absorb korbral Khan but can't due to his zoa crystal and I'm sure he's says that that is the reason he hasn't tried or can't assimilate a guyver as the control metal would stop him so how can he turn into guyver 3 ?

Just clocked something new watchin it again at least the reasoning behind him being able to use the mega smasher, he never dose he uses vamores bio laser that's y it's red in colour rather than blue like the mega smasher !! That's one puzzle solved ! Lol

I think the reason aptom was able to transform into the shape of Guyver 3 was that he wad able to refine his abilities with the dna of other zoidnoids. Most zoidnoids are pre-programed with a specific form. The Guyver is a symbiote that can, and could've, taken any form; as to why there's a difference between Sho and Makishima. Aptom, being infused with multiple zoidnoid forms means he can shape his cells at will into which ever zoidnoid he thinks of. But he doesn't have the cells of the guyver unit? That's because the guyver unit doesn't need any specific cells to transform. Symbiotes aren't restricted to pre-programed dna like zoidnoids or humans. And that's what happens to Aptom. He stays in his original form to keep his identity, but can take the shape of almost anything. You could say that aptom is showing the creation of the guyver symbiote. Back then, it was out of control, due to the creature having only a simple mind, also including the simple mind that humans had back then. But with aptom, he has a conscious; a rational mind. He is the perfect guyver unit that controls himself; the perfect bio-weapon.
