Good proximity to temples and things to see but also quiet and chilled enough to embrace the local way of life.

@@Skeetex3 Haha, yeah I love the big city, but I know it's not for everyone. Dear Gventures NB : No WiFi at Sphinx Airport , so unless you already have an Egyptian SIM card you can't call Uber or Careem or DiDi or Indriver unless you use the Roaming service and it will cost a lot and the internet is very very weak at Sphinx by Roaming . I suggest Careem for a cab and it cost me 189 EGP from Cairo Downtown at 20:30 ( way cheaper than Uber ) Another thing to consider , the police wont let you get in the airport for the departure flight unless the departure is within 2 hours only , so if you arrive at Sphinx airporr 3 hours before your departure you gonna wait 1 hour outside the airport terminal at the sun during the day , people use the mosque as a shelter from the heat, plus no canteen or coffeeshop or any shop neither nearby or inside the aiport before passport control ! Dear Gventures, Great Job i watch all your videos about Egypt ,i often travel to Egypt ,im frequent tourist there, and I hope to meet you one day in Cairo. All the best with luck from Rome 🇮🇹

Thank you for the information, it is good for people that may not know this information! Yes ordering a taxi of any kind through an app won't work without internet, so ordering an Uber is really only useful to those people who may have purchased an eSIM or have an international package through their home country. Anyone who is relying upon a local SIM card once they enter the country (which I prefer) will have to pay for the taxis waiting outside the airport, and they are of course never the best option due to cost. Having lived in Egypt for 2.5 years now, I do of course know the apps Careem and InDriver and Didi, sometimes those apps take longer, but it all just depends on your preference and what you're willing to spend. I only arrived through the Sphinx Airport but never departed, also good information for people planning to depart from there. I appreciate all your inputs and suggestions, thanks rabihhaidar in Rome 🙏

@@rabihhaidar6858 I already said it's payable by USD, GBP or Euro in the video. How they get their change is their business, but they are informed of the amount and should deduce that bringing small change for it is wise, I was never told that in the past but it's pretty easy to figure out on your own. I have no plans to fly out of Giza anytime soon, but I obviously would make a video there if/when I do, without anyone requesting me to do so, I would do it. @@rabihhaidar6858 Yeah I read that you said "hope you will make," maybe I should have replaced the word "requesting" with "suggesting." Thank you for such great videos. Cannot wait to visit Egypt. Would want to see EVERYTHING so it could take some time. please show short and medium stay rentals and what they cost per moth? This is a topic especially relevant for single females who travel alone. 🤩
@Gventures6 ай бұрын
Thanks Eleanor! If I were you, I would just look for an Airbnb or something, it's probably your best option. I've had people ask me in the past to show rentals, but I honestly don't think I will ever make a video about that, for a lot of different reasons. First, I don't speak much Arabic, so it's very, very difficult to speak with any landlords or people renting out apartments, rooms, etc. I would 100% need to recruit help from my Egyptian boyfriend or friends to translate, it's virtually impossible without help. Also, bigger risk of being ripped off if you go by yourself as a foreigner. Second, I don't want to waste anyone's time by asking them to meet me and have me view their apartment when I am not actually looking to rent anywhere (because I already rent my own apartment - which was a royal pain in the ass to find, btw). They also might not even allow me to film inside the apartment, if I were to actually try and contact people, take time off work to drive to wherever the apartment was, and view it. Those are two big reasons for me to never make this video, it's a lot of trouble for me, and wasting the time of the people that own these places. But not only that, there are so many variables when it comes to renting and the cost. Where in Egypt, to begin with. Then what part of that city? That will affect the cost. Gated community/compound or local neighborhoods? Furnished or unfurnished? Etc. etc. Many landlords also do not want to rent to people for a short term, usually they want a year contract. You may be able to find 6 months, maybe? But typically, if you want only a short term rental, then you need to look for just a room to rent in a house or apartment, not an entire apartment to yourself. That of course means you will have roommates. But with Airbnb, you can rent by the month, and it will be furnished. For those reasons, I think Airbnb will be your best option. But if you feel like digging around on the internet, you can look for apartments on the website Olx, just to see the quality and prices. Just a heads up, the quality of many apartments (in Cairo at least) is pretty low considering the high cost, compared to what I've seen in many other places I around the world. Not sure why, but it's just something I've noticed. Thailand or Argentina, for example, you will get good, modern facilities for a pretty low price, but not so in Egypt. In Cairo (depending on which part, I suppose), the cost can be kind of low, but the quality will be very low too. Just check Olx, you will see what I mean 😅

Thanks so much, and happy to hear they are helping! There are expat communities, but to be honest, I don't interact with expats at all 😅 I stay busy with work and spend most of my time either alone or with my Egyptian bf, and sometimes with my Egyptian friends (though they work a lot, just like me). But some areas where you will find expat communities are: Maadi, Zamalek, and Heliopolis. Other areas further out like New Cairo and stuff I think, but outside of the aforementioned neighborhoods of Cairo, I am not so familiar with where the expat communities are. Many times when Egyptians find out I live here, they ask "You live in Maadi?" Because that's how many foreigners apparently live there, Egyptians hear you are a foreigner living in Cairo and they assume you live in Maadi 😆 I don't know much about Maadi though, to be honest. I've only been down there a few times

Also thinking maybe I should go to the butcher and ask for the leftover guts they throw away, I heard I can buy it from them and then I could feed the whole neighborhood gang some "fresh" meat not just the kibble stuff. I'm not sure the reason for the second airport to be honest, though my mind wants to say it has something to do with the GEM Museum which is kind of close to the airport. Maybe for people just flying in for a day and wanting to see the pyramids and GEM, people will be more inclined with a quick trip from the Sphinx Airport rather than passing through Cairo's sometimes very heavy traffic. That's kind of a crazy thought, but maybe not so crazy as it sounds....😅

Is this Airport new or was it exclusively a military airport now a dual use airfield - military and civilian? I ask because You have two airports in Heliopolis, Cairo International and the airbase el Almaz. Unfortunately for me an Egyptian by birth but a Canadian passport holder, I can't simply buy a Visa upon arrival, I have to jump through hoops getting an expensive Visa from the Egyptian Embassy here in Canada first. Anyway, I just love the ambiance of that part of Cairo you were filming in during the day. Looking forward to your next video on Sunday, as always take care.

I've never heard of the Sphinx Airport being anything but a civilian airport, never heard anything about the military in relation to it either. As far as the other 2 airports, well I only know of Cairo International, so it makes sense the other one you mentioned is a military airbase. I know Canadians (regardless of birth country) have to jump through a lot of hoops now, because of a political spat between Egypt and Canada (something about Canada making it hard for Egyptians to get a visa, so Egypt made it harder for Canadians to get a visa too). Could that be the reason, or is it because you were born in Egypt? I don't know. Thanks Cherif!

@@Gventures no been back two times, 2010 & 1972, never had any issues. My beloved late mother went back so many times I can’t remember and no issues either. Have you not seen the el Almaz Airport as you take the main drag from Heliopolis to Cairo proper? It is just before you pass by that castle that rotates, built by a Swede in Roxy I believe. I believe they use it for an Apache helicopter squadron and as a VIP Airport for the President’s Gulfstream G VI and foreign dignitaries.

(P.S. it's a Lebanese restaurant) Al Hamra location: maps.app.goo.gl/sPxE8fX2ks3hqoM86 Al Hamra Video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g6fJkGagh8l6qdU Of course there's the famous Abou Tarek's if you're in the mood for Koshary Abou Tarek location: maps.app.goo.gl/GiR7cyoTrSy5Sii2A Abou Tarek Koshary video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/haWkkISgh8iMg6c Al Dahan is also a very good restaurant I've made many videos at, they have a wide variety of Egyptian food. You'll need a taxi to get here from downtown Cairo though. It's only about a 5-10 minute drive from the Egyptian museum, but it is on the other side of the Nile, located in Giza. (P.S. There's a similarly named restaurant in Khan El Khalili, but don't be fooled, it is not the same!) Al Dahan Location: maps.app.goo.gl/xKyHAFEe3pZoLpZc7 Al Dahan Video (Tarb edition): kzbin.info/www/bejne/nGXKdJ-JlJacjJI Lastly, I think the best restaurant I've ever been to for Egyptian food is Sobhy Kaber. You'll need a taxi to get here from downtown Cairo as well, but oh man, they are worth it. Everything I've ever had here is amazing. Sobhy Kaber location: maps.app.goo.gl/6Mab93fpBMQqA6E1A Sobhy Kaber video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/j6LLfGCkbNBneNk Have fun! Cairo is my favorite city in Egypt 😎❤️

How did you book your Uber if there wasn’t any sim card to buy for data in the airport or wifi?! Thanks
@Gventures4 ай бұрын
I live in Egypt so I already had a local SIM when I landed. You will not be able to order an Uber if you don't have internet of some kind. That means to order an Uber as soon as you land, you will have to have an expensive international package with your home company, or a slightly less expensive but still expensive e-sim. The other option (I think better option) is to look up the cost of an Uber before you arrive (make sure to look up the cost at the same hour you will arrive-considering time zones in your country while looking it up) and try to negotiate to get around that price with the regular street taxis that are waiting outside. You will not get it for as low as Uber, but you will at least have a better idea of what you should be paying by looking it up on Uber before you fly to Egypt.

How did you ordered the Uber when you didn’t had a Sim with internet yet?
@Gventures3 ай бұрын
I did have a SIM card, because I live in Egypt. But let's pretend I didn't have a SIM card. There are still e-SIMs and international packages people use to ensure they have internet as soon as they land in a new country. So there are several ways my friend.

Hey G, been a big fan of your content for a while. As a US citizen myself I am wondering about the visa process and since you've been living there for a while, do you have to leave the country every 90 days or there is another way to extend your status?
@Gventures6 ай бұрын
Thanks Ruya! Good question. What do you mean every 90 days? As far as I am aware, there is not even a visa that allows you to be within Egypt for 90 consecutive days. Most of the visas (if not all) allow you to only be within the country for 30 consecutive days. But you can extend your visa within the country. For example, you arrive with a tourist visa on arrival or e-visa which lasts for 30 days. A day or 2 before it expires, go to the immigration office and extend it. You can request an extension for 1 year, but they usually never grant that, and will give you anywhere from 3 months-6 months (depending on who knows what, the mood of the immigration officer maybe 😅). I've made a lot of videos about visas and extending visas in Egypt, and I actually plan to make another one in the nearish future. I will leave the links to all the visa videos I have made and how to extend below. VISA VIDEOS: Extending Your Visa (Most recent version. *Note: I forgot to mention in this video, your first time extending will require a rental contract or something similar): kzbin.info/www/bejne/qX62goCjlLNsm8U Older Version of Extending your Visa in Egypt: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oZLEXoBqqpWBl5I E-Visa: kzbin.info/www/bejne/j5S3oIF_jsiSms0 Visa on Arrival: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eIm0aYmdis2AeMU

Hi, maybe you can help me. Can I get the visa on arrival in Nuweiba? I will go to Egipt from Aqaba. Thank you
@Gventures6 ай бұрын
I think so, you should be able to get it at the port in Nuweiba. However, if I were you, I would just apply for the e-visa, just to be sure. Same price as visa on arrival, and then you don't have to mess around with anything on the ferry or when you get off. Normally I get a visa on arrival when traveling to countries that have it available, but with a smaller port of arrival like that, I would personally feel more comfortable getting an e-visa.

@Gventures9 күн бұрын
I already had a working Egyptian SIM card. You won't be able to book an Uber unless you have an E-sim or some international plan, which is almost always a rip off. They may have phone carrier companies in the airport now, I dunno I filmed this awhile ago, but I can't be sure. Otherwise just bargain with one of the taxi drivers waiting outside the airport.

@Gventures6 ай бұрын
Yeah it was around $150 USD. If you want to bring a lot of luggage it will cost you more though. Just check Wizz Air and see what kind of deals they have direct. You may find a cheaper airline another way. Probably flights to Sharm el-Sheikh are cheaper, although that is way out on the Sinai Peninsula, so if you want to come to Cairo or anywhere near the Nile, Cairo or Giza is better

What type of visa is needed to live in Egypt?
@Gventures6 ай бұрын
Permanent residency is required to live in any country around the world. The process varies depending on your reasons and capabilities. If you're rich, you can invest $300,000 into property in Egypt and gain citizenship. Most people don't have that kind of money though, I know I don't! 🤣 Something to research, as there are many factors.

You have stayed in Egypt for 2.5 years uptill now; do you think as (an american citizen ) it is easy to live here? And don't you miss life in U.S.A???
@Gventures6 ай бұрын
I think what defines easy will completely depend on the individual, what they enjoy, their past life experiences, what they are accustomed to, etc. For me, I find living in Egypt to be very easy (aside from the summer heat!). I love living here, for the same reasons that many other people would hate it. It is very subjective. I don't miss the US at all. I don't even want to go back to visit. I can talk to family on different social platforms, have video calls, etc. And they can visit me here or I can visit them somewhere else in the world, but I have no desire to fly back to the US (or pay for that flight either 😆). Aside from family, maybe I just miss American style BBQ chicken....that's about it lol

Just got back from Cairo I loved it so much just didn’t like how the airport guys tried to hussle us asking for our tickets when entering through security to scanner bags, I said why would you need our tickets when we don’t have the tickets we’re gonna get at the counter once we pass the security he’s like no no no it’s just so you can get access faster. He’s like do you have money? I need you to give me money so I can let you in. I want to report it. I don’t know where but they scammed us so bad and he’s like oh I’m taking you to express you need to give me 200 pounds. They really pissed me off.

Mm, yeah, never give anyone money for any service, police or anyone else. That's unfortunate. I would have said "no no, thank you. And I can't can't even tip you for your help because I have no EGP left" or something like that. I guess now you know for next time, if it ever happens again. Hopefully not. I've never had that happen to me, and I've been in and out of the airport quite a few times.

@@omarzayzy4431 Well that's good to hear! And maybe I didn't phrase well what I wanted to say in my above comment. I don't mean "never give money for any service", because actually Egyptians themselves tip quite often for small little services and the like, and it's polite to offer. I just mean to be aware of the ones that are actively trying to do something for you and are very pushy about it, because they are likely after some sort of tip. But yeah, it is what it is, hopefully won't happen again.
