There's one secondary character from Mario Odyssey who I think has absolutely all the potential to become a Mario recurring character and join the spinoffs: Glydon! My boy has the charisma, he's cute like the other Dino-like creatures, he has everything! Let him thrive!

Diddy Kong and Bowser Jr were two glaring omissions in Mario Kart 8 initially to me. The were both in the prior two mainline Mario Kart games so I thought they would always come back and when they didn't it bugged me.

With 24 racers per race, I think they will add all the racers from previous games, including tour. I do hope characters like E.Gadd make it though.

That's what gives some hope for a large roster 24 characters means the equivalent of the current in Mario Kart 8 deluxe is 100 characters. I dont think they will go that far but my hope would be 3 per slot so 24x3=72 and this is the next Mario kart for 8+ years. My real hope though is they start at 72 then get us to 100 through DLC. That would be 28 characters over a couple of years of DLC so presumably 4 years of 7 characters a year.

We've seen 24 playable characters in the new Mario Kart. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe + Booster Pass has 48 different characters. And I think if you do away with all the costumes, Mario Kart Tour has only 47 individual characters.

@Drosale317 I think it has a good possibility because Nintendo is going to make bank on this game. If you assume an average of even $30 mario kart this gen made about 2 billion dollars in revenue before DLC Mario Kart is likely to generate at least a billion in sales again without including DLC so If you Include massive DLC Nintendo is likely looking at at least 2 billion.

Ok, so my pipe dream character, assuming we're even getting crossover characters this time around: picture Olimar directing a small team of Pikmin to control a kart. You've got one running on the steering wheel, a pair working the gas and breaks, maybe a winged Pikmin pops out when you glide. Maybe it wouldn't work in practice, but gosh if it doesn't give me the biggest smile when I imagine it.

Some solid ideas, guys. I definitely agree that E.Gadd, Cappy, Dixie and Cranky Kong are long overdue for inclusion. I'd love to see Captain Syrup and Spike make it in too. Speaking of Wario games, how about a few guys from Warioware? You mentioned Mona, who's already an ideal pick, but how about Ashley, (give her a bike based on her broomstick) Dribble and Spitz (in their taxi) and 9-Volt and 18-Volt? (perfect to go with the 3D Hot Rally kart we've seen in the initial trailer) And for some really obscure picks... Rudy the Clown from Dr Mario 64, and Stanley the Bugman from Donkey Kong 3.

This video reminds me how much I’d love to see y’all do roster build videos in the same vein as Source Gaming and Delzethin. Videos where each member of the staff (or as many as are available) brainstorm and present their own fan-made rosters for games like Smash, Project X Zone, Marvel vs. Capcom, PlayStation All-Stars, or Pokkèn, accompanied by mockup character selection screens. You could even host polls to see which roster is the most popular among the viewers!

My dream roster would be that, spinoff universes need to be buffed significantly. The big one for me is: Wario. Give us WARIOWARE characters! It's an easy W! Mona, Ashley, Jimmy T, 9-Volt, Penny! Those would all be great characters! Wario Land, we at least need Captain Syrup. If you want more of a deep cut, give us Merelda (WL: Shake It) or Shakora (WL4) as well. Donkey Kong needs to have a good chunk of characters right out of the gate, not waiting until DLC and updates. Diddy, Dixie, and Funky should all be there for sure. I'd like to see Cranky and King K. Rool as well. Luigi's Mansion, give us a King Boo Luigi's Mansion skin, E. Gadd, Polterpup, and Gooigi. Yoshi's Island is mostly fine as-is, although Poochy from tour needs to come over. Assuming Kamek returns too, not much else needs to be done. In general, I hope the roster isn't padded out with a bunch of generic characters. I'd rather have niche characters like Lubba (Mario Galaxy 2) and Il Piantissimo (Sunshine) than Sumo Bro. or whatever. Broodals suck though/ At most I'd reluctantly take Madame Brood but there are so many better characters I'd rather not have 5 of them taking up space.

I’d like to see one of those Tostarenans from Mario Odyssey; I think those were the standout NPCs from that game within the sand kingdom. They were such interesting little characters; we haven’t seen much Odyssey Rep in Mario Kart either, other than maybe Pauline, so more references to that game would be cool. Their Day of the Dead and Mexican-style clothing as little chibi characters is very cute; I'd love to see them racing around as characters. It's kind of a shame we haven't seen them in any spin-off games.

The characters I'm hoping for are Dixie Kong and King K. Rool. Dixie was in Tour and K. Rool was playable in Mario Super Sluggers, so there's precedence to include him in Mario spinoff rosters. I'm also hoping they add RPG and Warioware characters, but I don't think that's likely.

I'm guessing the new Mario Kart won't be numbered and will instead get a subtitle that denotes the inclusion of other Nintendo franchises. Or perhaps something like "Mario Kart: X-Over" to imply both the 10 and the crossover.

While I never owned MKT and can't recall everyone they had, I have the following ideas: SMB: Buzzy Beetle, Spiny, Hammer Bro SMB2: Beezo, Snifit, Triclyde, Mouser, Wart, Clawgrip SMB3: Para Buzzy Beetle, Hammer Bros ( Fire, Sumo, Boomerang), SMW: Sumo Bro ( the one who hops and drops the fire walls), Mecha Koopa, fire breathing rhinos, Charging Chucks (baseball and football), the colored Koopas( yellow, red, blue, and flashing) SMRPG: Boshi, Frog Fucious ... others? OTHERS: King Bob-omb Nabbit Cosmic Mario Gooigi E. Big post incoming, tl;dr version - Assuming all MK8D characters come back, I want to see Professor E. Gadd, Foreman Spike, Cappy, Prince Florian, King K. Rool, obscure picks like Wart and Tatanga, and RPG characters like Geno and Vivian, hopefully they don't go overboard with non-Mario characters, but Samus and Captain Falcon would be cool too. Alright, I've been waiting for this discussion! So, because there are now (supposedly) going to be 24 racers racing at once, I'm predicting this will be the biggest roster in the entire Mario Kart series. I also predict that every character from Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, plus Booster Pass, will be in this one as a result. So with that in mind, here are characters I'd love to see: -Professor E. Gadd: it feels long overdue, E. Gadd use to appear in Mario spin-offs all the time in the GameCube/GBA era, but now is relegated only to Luigi's Mansion installments, I'd like Nintendo to use him more, and Mario Kart is the best way to start that trend -Foreman Spike: I'm waiting for Nintendo to start using him more thanks to his appearance in The Super Mario Bros. Movie (just like Pauline started appearing everywhere after Super Mario Odyssey), and much like what I said with E. Gadd, Mario Kart is the logical start for Foreman Spike's return to the games. -Cappy: I love this little guy, he's so gosh-darn cute, and he's a good companion in Super Mario Odyssey, but aside from appearing as a statue in Super Mario Run, the fact that he's made no other appearances since then is a TRAVESTY! I was expecting him to get the Pauline treatment, too, but NOTHING! Really hope Nintendo fixes that with this game. -Prince Florian: I'm not AS gung-ho about Prince Florian showing up again as I am with Cappy, but I think it'd be cool to see him again in spin-offs, I just think it stinks to think he'll be one of the many new characters introduced in a new Mario game then swiftly forgotten about. -King K. Rool: unless they're just oblivious to what their fans think (which is quite possible, given how they act most of the time), they HAVE to know we love King K. Rool after he was included in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and if they're not going to make a new Donkey Kong game, Mario Kart is as good a time as any to bring him back outside of Smash. Obscure picks: I don't have that much to say about these picks individually, but in general, there are a lot of older Mario characters that I wish would come back in some way, shape, or form. I especially would like to see them come back in spin-offs like Mario Kart, because if they're going resort to padding out a roster with blatant filler characters like Baby Rosalina and Pink Gold Peach, they might as well use that opportunity to instead reach into Mario's deep history and large catalogue of characters before doing that. With that in mind, Wart and Tatanga would be good heavy-weight and light-weight additions, which solves the "new metal character" and "new baby character" situation right there, plus they're one of the few mainline Mario antagonists besides Bowser himself, so I really do think they deserve some love. Would also love to see Toadsworth again, Mouser from Super Mario Bros. 2, Captain Syrup from the Wario Land games, maybe even Donkey Kong Jr. come back, or if I'm allowed to be REALLY crazy, bring back Bowser's Brother, or Blue Bowser, from Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels! Lots of possibilities with this one that I'd love to see! Mario RPG characters: I never really understood why Nintendo doesn't bother including characters introduced in the Mario RPGs in Mario spin-offs, and while I don't bother suggesting them most of the time because they never have previously, I always found the notion that they "can't" do so silly a lot of the time. They seemed to have no problem using the Star Spirits and the Goomba King (or "Goomboss") from Paper Mario in other games, so why did they stop after that? The only hurdle I could perceivably see is with Super Mario RPG characters, as they'd probably need the OK from Square-Enix to be included in anything else, which is a shame because I'd love to see Geno and Mallow in Mario Kart. Mario's partners from the Paper Mario games, ESPECIALLY Vivian, would also make good additions, I feel. Fawful from the Mario & Luigi games? Eh, even though he rather clearly died at the end of Bowser's Inside Story, logic and continuity that like never stopped Nintendo before, so sure. Would also like to see Connie from Mario & Luigi: Brothership, too. Non-Mario characters: Let me be clear about this, I DON'T want Mario Kart to turn into Nintendo Kart or Smash Kart or whatever. As you can see by how long this comment is, I have a deep love and passion for all things Mario-related, and I think it would suck for Nintendo to resort to just including other video game characters in this series before certain Mario characters got their chance to shine. That said, I'm not completely against other Nintendo characters showing up, in particular I wouldn't mind seeing Samus Aran and Captain Falcon in this one. Maybe if they work something out with their second parties, we could have Kirby and Pikachu too. People seem to think Sonic is a given, but again, third-parties are trickier to deal with I think, but it's definitely not impossible (unlike Banjo-Kazooie, who I'd just DIE if they made it happen, but I just can't see it). I just hope Nintendo is conservative about this sort of thing, OK? PHEW, OK, that's about all I had to say. Thanks to anyone who actually took the time to read all this! Looking forward to more information on this new Mario Kart!

@@TicTacToeCraft Link also seems "too mature" for a silly game like Mario Kart, yet here he is. And it's not even Toon Link or something like that. It still feel so odd to see him so serious while driving, then be all happy or goofy when he wins or if he gets hit by a Shell or something.

Honestly, I'm sick of them pulling random characters over named characters like Diddy. I want more characters pulled from related franchises like DK and Wario or side games like Luigi, Peach, the RPGs, etc..as well as skins like Dr. Mario, Fire Luigi, Detective Peach. Give me Dixie Kong, Ashley, Gadd, and maybe work something out with Square-Enix and give us Geno. I'd also love expanding on the crossovers, like we had racing suits for Sonic, Mega Man, and Pac-Man (as well as the arcade games in his case), put em in as DLC surprises along with the returning guests and Zelda, Capt Falcon, and Samus. I say Tour this and just keep releasing new racers and tracks, as well as skins like Witch Rosalina, throughout the Switch 2's lifespan until it's time to develop the next Mario Kart.

Possible candidates in my list... Heavyweights: Plessie, K. Rool, Chunky Kong, Zelda (since Link made it to Mario Kart 8), Madame Broode (Super Mario Odyssey), Boom Boom, etc. Middleweights: Poochy (was only in Tour), Klonoa (we had Namco characters back in the arcade titles), Hammer Bro, Broozer (New Super Mario Bros.), Pom Pom, E. Gadd, Baby Wario, Baby DK, Dixie, etc. Lightweights: Olimar (we only got an Olimar-themed suit in Mario Kart 8), Cappy, Ninji, Tiara, etc.

I'm so glad Daniel said Cappy! It's a crime he's never appeared in any spin-off since Mario Odyssey and would be perfect for this game. I'd also love to see the Piantas with a tonne of alt colours make it in, their squishy nature would make them perfect for this game too.

I think there's a very real chance this still ends up being Nintendo Kart. With 24 possible racers at once, I'm imagining a rather large roster. I think the glimpse we've seen so far might be a large portion of the Mario characters, and the rest may be Nintendo. Or maybe a majority Mario, but still a much larger number of guests than 8.

My guess is a long shot, it's certainly wishful thinking, but I think this will happen. My guess is Nintendo will have this Mario Kart as their exclusive Battle Royale Game of the console, since every Competition Company are planning to have their own handheld consoles. The 24 racers makes me guess it will be Battle Royale since the genre is still so popular, especially with Younger Audiences. Battle Royale may not be the entire gimmick, but I think it's the one that will push sales. That being said, I think Nintendo will try to follow the Fortnite strat (minus Battle Pass) and constantly releasing characters throughout the years. I also think this will be a big announcement just like Ultimate's EVERYONE IS HERE trailer (maybe we'll see if April 2nd). While I think it would be cool, that our roaster at launch would be every single racer throughout the series (yes, even Tour and the Arcade Games) it seems very unlikely. However, I'm pretty sure this game has been cooking long enough for them to pull it off. And if they're not all playable at launch, then they will be when the game is officially retired. While all the characters will be in, I don't think all the costumes from Tour will be in, at the start. I think theme costumes will come out periodically as a brand new character is added. Like say when DK Jr. Is added, along with him there are 16 bit costumes of the original 8 SNES characters. Think CTR but with Mario Kart. As far as new characters go, I think they will include characters from other Mario Games (Wonder, Odyssey, odd picks from Sports Games, etc.), Peach Showtime, Yoshi Series, and especially the Donkey Kong Country Series (thanks to the Mario Movie). I'm wishful for the characters from Warioware series to be in but I don't see it. As far as other Nintendo Series, I can see them adding characters that go along as their releases. Like Samus (in Armour) when Metroid Prime 4 drops. I know with a list this massive, it would make character select screen daunting. But I think before picking the character you actually pick your weight class and then all the characters of said weight class will appear. I think this because they want to be transparent on the 9 different weights. Of course, I'm well aware this is a long shot, it's Nintendo after all (Never Forget Battle League). However, since 8 Deluxe was the Switch's highest selling game, to me this makes the most sense. But I won't be down if I'm wrong, just happy to be playing a new Mario Kart finally. (But with 24 racers at one time, PLEASE NINTENDO, let this game have local LAN support).
