GW0WVL Fake Nagoya 144/430 Antenna

I bought this Fake Nagoya 144/430 Antenna a few days ago, It turned up via the post today, These are my findings.

seems to me they are just using that centre as a means to reduce the thickness of the top whip :D

Interesting... I also have one of those cheap chinese ones. It is suposed to be a Nagoya NL-770SL. Would love to see how the original one is made. All images in the internet including Nagoya website seem to have the same shorted centerpiece.

The Diamond NR-770S is very similar and does have the loop centerpiece isolated (at least look like it). Maybe the Nagoya is a clone of the Diamond one 😅

would you recommend to get this to be used for car convoy though?

It works OK for what it is, But its not really as advertised, I replaced the whip section on mine with a single straight length of aluminium Rod ... There was no difference in its performance , But without the ugly looking and non functioning fake coil the antenna now looks Smaller and less obtrusive on the car ... The performance is the same as any other dual band antenna thats a 1/4 wave on 144 mhz and 3/4 wave on 430 mhz .

At the end of the day its just a 1/4 wave ... It works as good as any 1/4 wave will.

I did buy same antenna it 100% fake I did make modifications cut it down and made ¼ wave for 446 Pmr and it works very well I've not waste any money.
