I remember them being scary, bloody and loud as a kid and wasn’t really my thing. Watching this mild performance and reading everything in this thread is very eye opening. Always amazing learning about bands from those who know.

This is amazing. To see NPR turn to GWAR for fundraiser support warms my heart. I love that they kicked off the National Public Radio broadcast with a 1997 classic about barnyard bestiality and threw in some child abduction material along with it. Glad to see NPR finally elevating their taste in music!!!

I THINK GWAR were the leading donators or blood, when they were collecting after Derks got sick. Very touching.

I'm one of those people. I'm like, they're not my style, but they're really good. Then: they remind me of somebody. Then: ffs, I grew up on Alice Cooper's School's Out album. This is not alien to me.

I've never been that into their music but I've always thought they had some legitimately good songs even if it's not my thing. A lot of bands like this are all about the gimick and costumes, but Gwar actually tries to make good music.

Unbelievably excited GWAR has a tiny desk! Hoping this means they have more bands of the sort. Been waiting a long time to see some legendary punk bands on here

Imagine being a regular Tiny Desk viewer who has never heard of GWAR and doesn't know what they're seeing right now 😂 I still have my stained shirts from their shows

I love how they stop and do a pledge drive in the middle of the show😂 haven't seen Gwar since the 90s lol. I love the variety of all kind of music on Tiny Desk. You will literally see everything. Great job 👏

Given they're a bunch of people in silly monster costumes, they've got no business being as talented as they are. Long time Gwar fan here, love to see more folks getting introduced to them!

Since I have loved Maurice Sendak from his first book, this is . . . totally (in-) appropriate.

Everyone on the planet should see GWAR twice... first time to take in the visuals and the second time to dance out to the music.

Seeing as GWAR was always a favorite at the old 9:30 Club in DC, and Tiny Desk Concert creator Bob Boilen's band Tiny Desk Unit played the first-ever show there... Yeah there's no way I would have ever imagined this one happening either.

Great sound, great set! What I love is that GWAR is actually one of the most professional acts in the industry...they set out to accomplish so much more than any other band even dreamed of, and they did it!
