"The grass is greener on the other side". Girls with beautiful curly hair straighten them, girls with straight hair curl them; short girls wish to be taller, tall girls wish to be shorter. You can be an absolute stunning creature like Gwen is but still find something to hate about yourself. Makeup probably helps her overcome that.

@@TonyCrispruby denying the role is also a choice, like what Dinklage did, to not be clowned for the rest of career. She had choice taking that roles with fat paycheck or denying all these offers, I'm sure there was 100+ indie-movie, that would gladly take Gwendolyn for smth like 100k per movie. She made her choice, I'm glad she's doing first steps of coming out of typecast cycle. But I mean, look at Daniel Radcliffe and what he did to being remembered as an actor and not as 'good boy saving the world' typecast aka Harry Potter. To be fair, we don't know the exact limitations of shapeshifting: if there are time limits, a limit to the energy expended to take on another form, a limit to what forms she could take (animal vs human e.g., Mystique from X-Men). Pulling from the flashback (I am somewhat suiting facts to my theories), it could be that this is her 'base form'. It would be interesting to know if her hair and makeup is part of the shift or not. Alternately, it could be she just adds extra height for the added implied power. Or she decided when she was young that she liked this form (amplified or otherwise) and trained herself to always maintain it. ....Aaaaand I just conceived so many plot bunnies...gddmt...

@clatterslam
@clatterslam Жыл бұрын
@@david6avila Well, there's a huge difference between movie make-up and real life make-up. They most likely still put make-up on her in the films where she had to appear more masculine, they just didn't apply eye or lip make-up like they would to feminine characters. Make-up can change the way you look a lot, and the make-up they did on her in those shows just might have accentuated features on her face that she didn't like, I guess. For example, it's very common for women with a fair complexion to be insecure about having blonde eyebrows and eyelashes, so just wearing foundation without any mascara or lipstick to bring the colour back into her face probably made her feel like she looks gaunt and washed out. Personally, I feel like I look better with no make-up on rather than just my foundation and concealer without any blush, mascara, lipstick etc, so I totally see where she's coming from when she says she felt ugly. She doesn't mean that her face just is naturally ugly, but that the make-up she had to wear made her look ugly, yaknow?

Wednesday is wearing PLATFORMS in the ENTIRE series and I’m positive that’s 1 of several ways they could make it look to us like there’s zero difference. Also in EVERY “Full” shot of Gwen, on camera she’s standing in a way that makes an optical illusion on camera. With her left foot out in front and left hip and left shoulder facing front and the right side slightly set further back from the rest of her. Making her figure look AMAZING, and of course (gotta be her training) she looks incredible! (The platform shoes on Wednesday REALLY helped her to not get swallowed by all the other folks towering over here. Guaranteed Christina Ricci and Jenna Ortega are the shortest people on that cast. Even Ricci wears boots throughout the entire series so far. #nospoilers definitely had to aid in the “outcasts” not looking SO different? 🫶🏻

It is also weird to me, because in GoT, based on the books, her character was supposed to be ugly and they didn't even make her purposefully ugly in the series. Like it could have been much worse than just not letting her wear makeup if they wanted to stay more true to the books. Her feeling ugly in that role is sad, because she doesn't look bad at all.

@@themysticwarriorgal9465 Yeah but they’re in the minority. Also I’m specifically talking about women such as Gwendoline who are normally type casted to play “strong female” roles which present the idea that women have to dress or appear masculine in order to physically demonstrate that they’re tuff or strong, especially if they have a hunkier body type. There’s also this other terrible cliche which is that strong women have to be extremely rude, narcissistic, and self righteous in order to demonstrate some sort of independence. This not only is extremely untrue but it is also a terrible example to put out for younger girls. Strength comes in setting an example for others, working with people, and setting aside opinions or beliefs in order to accomplish a greater means. That’s how most strong women in films should be written.
@themysticwarriorgal9465
@themysticwarriorgal9465 Жыл бұрын
@@tallerwarrior1256 there r more than 3 billion women I can tell u we aren't a minority. U also have to look at the character's background she's playing. For example brienne of tarr was not a stereotypically feminine woman. Her character wasn't meant like that. If this actress didn't like it I guess she shouldn't have been picking roles like that🤷. I'm also finding it problematic that nowadays a woman needs to wear makeup to feel beautiful. In regards to the statement u made about women needing to be masc to be strong I honestly don't see a problem with that. Strength presents itself in different ways. If she's masc and strong I see nothing wrong with that, if she's fem and strong I see nothing wrong with that. Society isn't lacking feminine and strong female characters. And what I want is for flawed, strong female characters. I want to see more rude and narcissistic women in tv. I could care less if a female character is feminine or not I just want her to be flawed and imperfect.
@tallerwarrior1256
@tallerwarrior1256 Жыл бұрын
@@themysticwarriorgal9465 Okay A, masculine women are a minority. If you look at the 3 Billion women around the world most aren’t masculine. B, the actress literally stated that she was happy that she was FINALLY OFFERED a role in which she could wear makeup. Meaning that in the past she most likely wasn’t offered any feminine roles due to her size and body type, believe it or not Hollywood is very specific on what actors and actresses can play and very few are allowed to “pick roles”. Also I never said anything about women needing to wear make up to feel beautiful, in fact my preference is women who actually wear less make up. But anyways I was speaking on the fact that I’m tired of Hollywood always trying to stereotype strong female characters as being masculine. Of course there should be female characters that are masculine however I wish that those characters would be used when necessary rather than as tools for producers, writer, and directors to create strong female characters. As for women in film and television being narcissistic, rude, and self righteous. I find it that a lot of the time those characters are always painted as being in the right. Normally this type of character is never wrong and never learns any lesson on how to treat other people fairly and with respect. They always seem to talk down to others, act as if they’re the smartest person in the room, and constantly play the victim. A character can’t be flawed and broken unless they learn to pick themselves back up and fix their mistakes or lose in the end because they were unable to do so. A character being flawed or broken and winning in the end without learning a valuable lesson or overcoming something about themselves is just bad writing.

A lot goes in film making. Framing and character screen presence are very important on how you feel about what’s happening on screen. The cold truth about it is they are looking for people with specific looks for characters. Take Thor from Marvel for example.
