Good result Gruff, it's still one of the most satisfying things to see a new queen up and laying nicely. I've just finished honey extraction, I don't know about you but a very different story to the last two seasons............25% of the average of the last two! Such a promising start followed by a dry windy May and wet and windy June. Feeding some colonies through the summer that just kept laying, also some BPV in the more Buckfast strained colonies. Feeding for winter and all treated now, living in hope for next season............😎🤞

Yes a terrible year here for us honey wise. One of the worst in memory! ☹️ But us beekeepers always look on the bright side of things onward and upwards for next year!! 😁😁

They are great boxes, I use them for my mating nucs and they work really well and you can combine the two sides at the end of the year, the diverider is a bit of a pain but the new version (not yet released) is much better,

Agree with that!! I will definitely be getting some of their new dividers.

Hi Gruff , nice brood patterns on your two nucs should do well overwintering them now my friend , I’ve found superseder cells in three of my new nucs so far this month since I’ve put treatment in them the ones I put apistan in strange I’ve never had any cells with using apigaurd in the past I will just have to let the bees do there own thing , I’m definitely not taking the apistan out I’ve seen a big mite drop with them . Thanks for sharing gruff mate .

Hi Peter, We’re the nucs made with bought in queen or did they make their own queen? The treatment may not be the reason their drawing cells. Coming into winter if the queen is not right the bees will change her, Only issue is it’s getting late in the year for them to make their own queen and not many drones around now. If the nucs are strong I would cut the cells out and introduce a mated queen.

Gwenyn Gruffydd , they made there own queens mate and I’ve noticed on the outta frames lots of drones too , the nucs are nicely loaded with bees but I can definitely see the queens are slowing down with there laying , thx gruff I might have to buy some mated queens if there unsuccessful.

I've got a question if you don't mind? When you've put the bees in the new nuc, what stops the remaining bees from that side killing the queen on the other side when you take the corex out? There must be quite a few left behind once you take those frames out.

Yes that’s true, I think because their in the same box the smell must carry over and I haven’t found it to be a problem yet.

When did you film this; was it recently? Is that how these two colonies will now overwinter?
@gwenyngruffydd4 жыл бұрын
A week or 2 ago. Yes will feed them heavily over the next 2 weeks to help them draw the other 3 frames out.
