You are doing something I'd never be able to do, kit build. Seriously, last time I tried it ended up in the bin after being abandoned for over a year. You've made a great start mate, best of luck!

+C.W.Jenkins Rail Films Thanks mate. Glad you enjoyed it. As for the wheel formation, the 26xx class was a 2-6-0 Mogal Class used for fright, while the 'City of Truro' Class or 37xx Class as they were know, were used for express passenger services. Though I am very tempted to go out and get a RTR Bachmann version of the 37xx ;)

Hi Callum, If the paint has a shine to it wait until you have finished the model and then give it a coat of matt varnish, this will also protect the paintwork, all the best of luck. Barry

I found if you want a constant flat black. You should try rustolum spray paint, but not flat black. Try what is called rust reform sealer. They use it on new replacement parts on vehicles. You wreck your car fender. You order new fender replacement. It doesn't come in color. It comes flat black. It a sealer that keeps metal from rusting. I'm restoring a 52 8n ford tractor. Painted hood after sanding and removing rust with this. It stays flat black. So if you do decide at another time to paint. It is already ready to paint. It acts as a primer to. Works great

Just right as a challenge for you over the Winter! You will succeed I am sure! Perhaps the paint needs more complete stirring before you use it.
@SDJR7F88
@SDJR7F88 10 жыл бұрын
ADMIRALSCORNER It sure is! Will certainly keep me occupied! The paint was stired well over 5 Minutes after the first attempt failed, guess it's just the brand of paint as they tend to vary in quality. I'm have some major issue with the main paint I plan to paint the loco when complete, with it drying in seconds!

Ooh this looks good. it's incredible to think what you can do with dapol kits. If you wanted to just motorise the City of Truro kit, there is an RTR chassis that has a perfect wheelbase where you just need to change the wheels & that chassis is the old Triang Nelly 0-4-0 or the newer hornby 0-4-0 tanks, you could also just take the running plate, fabricate a new boiler & smoke box from plastikard & you'd get a dukedog. I have already motorised a dapol railbus using a pacer mechanism so maybe this can be my next project

For the painting.. I'd prime it with some Halfords grey acrylic spay can. And also a coat of matt vanish when you have finished, means you don't need to worry how the paint looks.
@SDJR7F88
@SDJR7F88 10 жыл бұрын
Scott Rixon Thanks for the heads up scott! Never used spray paint before, so not too sure how to use and don't want to mess it up. The main livery is a right pain to apply and I have had a number of issues with it all ready. Let's just say I need to buy a new tender for the kit... It was humbrol and brushed on line the black seen, but it dried in second and left looks of brush strokes. Now to find another kit for the tender parts, but the other spare pairs will come in handy for another project. Sure hope the paint on the boiler goes well or I'll be very mad...

This kind of paint problem was (is) usual with enamels from Humbrol. Try painting with Urethane Acrylic Primer from Vallejo in Black (can be used with airbrush) mixing it with the Model Air Satin Varnish from Vallejo. If you want to brush paint, use then Model Color varnish instead. I switched to the Vallejo acrylics ages ago and would never get back to enamels (had to do it for an article, and it was a real pain for me...) Eric.

Looks great mate, can't wait to see a running video. Just one thing though, are you going to stick with the mogul design chassis you have there or are you going for the original 4-4-0 wheel arrangement of the 26xx?

just started a 2600 kitbash how thick was the plastic card used for the running plate?locomotive illustrated has many pictures of Aberdares in their GWR 260 issue.Have you finished yours yet need an update 7 or 8?

@SDJR7F88 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Tony. Glad you enjoyed the project. I can't quite remember the thickness of the card used for the running plate, but it was the same thickness as the running plate that came with the kit. Sadly I'm still yet to finish the model, due to a number of other projects. However when I find the the time I'll be sure to do so :)
