an environment where the healthy choice is the easy choice... I have always envisioned a society like that as the ideal

This man is 100% correct that you have to change the environment but it will tick a lot of people off! I am retired school nurse and getting parents, staff, students, and even administration to change their horrible eating habits was a loosing battle. You have to create an environment where they do not access to junk food.

P.S. Loma Linda also arguably has the best hospital in the US, maybe second only to the Mayo Clinic.

Was raised SDA...went to an SDA boarding school (HS). All their schools are strictly vegetarian. You can bring food in from home, but no meat or any of the forbidden foods mentioned in Genesis & Exodus. This is one reason they live longer. Another reason is that they have a REAL bond with one another. I’m no longer a practicing SDA, but I’ve been to other churches over the span of my almost 50 years and every other religion that I experienced was very hypocritical....yes they all are, but the other ppl; Christian, Jewish, catholic, etc...would all gather in small groups After the services and talk smack about what some ppl wore or how they never come to church or gossip about other parishioners private lives. SDA ppl; in my experience, don’t typically do that. They have real support groups and you feel honestly loved and you trust the other ppl in your church or sister churches. The only other religion that I feel is as loving and open is; believe it or not, Mennonite. So...yeah, just another clue as to the longevity of SDAdventists. My Nanny lived to 91, died of old age in her sleep, her sister was 95, their mother was 93...shoot my mother is one of nine children and we’ve only lost one so far...my aunt, Who was 81 and stopped eating SDA diets as a teenager/when she got married. ** not taking eastern religions into consideration, as I’ve never met a mean spirited Buddhist. 😊**

No new info. here, just regurgitation of already known info. & too bad they don't show the actual slides. BTW- One can't just join an Moai in Okinawa; the key to their bonding is growing up together & having shared experiences! So, just moving to Okinawa is not a magical longevity key!

Did you take all of the information and actually use it?

Buettner is (as is his partner) fast becoming the voice of reason among some pretty strident purists in the Plant Based Movement in that he acknowledges the fact that most of the people in the Blue Zones consume limited amounts of animal products and they also cook with oils, especially Olive Oil, in the Med and drink alcohol. I much prefer his more liberal approach. I'm fine with giving up dairy and seriously reducing my intake of animal products, but give up Olive Oil? That won't be happening any time soon.

Giving up olive oil is not hard. You’d be fine without it. I gave up animal products for the sake of the animals 17 years ago. To me that’s reward enough. The health benefits are a lovely side effect. Longevity would be lovely, but a life - no matter how long - lived well is, I think, even more important. Best wishes!

I've read it thanks and yes, it's all there along with a lot of sexism, racism and homophobia, gobble-de-gook, myth, legend, hocus pocus historical inaccuracy and general nonsense. Many of the people in the Blue Zones aren't Christian and Buettner isn't necessarily endorsing your religion, by referencing it. I'm pretty sure that there are similar passages in Hindu and Buddhist texts!
