I know this video is very old by now, and because of that tha chances of you seeing this comment are low. But anyway, I'd just like to thank you for all the work you've done, I started playing guitar because of your arrengement of gwyn, dreaming that one day I could play this music too. So you were my first inspiration, the one that actually led me to learn how to play, and three years later I'm already able to play this song well, and many others that you so kindly made tha tabs completely available. It got me months to learn it, being my first fingerstyle song, and I'd just like to thank you for introducing me in the art. From time to time I go to your channel to watch this video for the 200th time, the finest perfection. Hope you continue with the marvelous work you done it so far :)

To hitch off of this comment, I decided to take up classical guitar at my uni after I saw his video of Priscilla’s Song from The Witcher a couple years ago. I come from a jazz guitar background so I didn’t go in completely blind, I’ve been playing guitar since I was 12 (10 years) and this guy managed to rejuvenate my entire skill set on guitar after stagnating with jazz. Classical guitar is absolutely ridiculous in a great way when it comes to right hand technique and displaying the synergy between harmony/melody.

Hi Isac, your videos inspired me to buy a guitar and start learning it. Which kind of guitar would be good for a beginner who wants to play songs like Gwyn, Lord of Cinder, Souls of Fire and Dearly Beloved - Kingdom Hearts II. And how longs does it take to play one of these songs?
@johnrad95127 жыл бұрын
First off, amazing job. These tabs sound great and just like the originals. Maybe not today, or maybe next week but someday I will master this song. I mean I beat Midir(after 11 attempts XD), at the very least I could learn a quarter of this song. Even if I rage quit, Dark Souls has gotten me used to getting over walls like these. No matter how many times a boss or a tab kicks my ass, I'll learn from my mistakes and keep moving forward. I still can't thank you enough though for making this tab. Your good at what you do and I hope you keep it up.
@IsacSalehGuitar7 жыл бұрын
All the songs you mentioned are finger stretching and pinkie beating. The easiest would be to start with Souls of Fire (if you know artificial harmonics), then Dearly Beloved and when you've really built up your stamina and flexibility, this song.

When I first entered that boss fog, it was after a long run of jolly cooperation with the friend that introduced me. Despite this, I felt it was the right thing to face him alone. In the end, it was just me and the Lord of Cinder. And this song. This song threw me off. It wasn’t some epic fanfare with a choir, brass, drums, and the entire orchestra. It was one... one piano. One sad piano, one sad husk of a once great man, and one undead warrior come to pry the flame from his hands. It was... unsettling.
@TeethedGlory4 жыл бұрын
I feel you bro. When I was playing for the first time somehow I managed to make op character with Havels shield and when I faced Gwyn, seeing him hopelessly trying to hurt me while this song was playing, torn me apart. Puting down the flame after felt only right decision.

@IsacSalehGuitar9 жыл бұрын
@105898770674426205457 When I was arranging this I was wondering if the composer deliberately made it to be as impractical as possible for guitar :P I tried simplifying it as far as I could but it still ended up very hard to play. I'm sure the tab / sheet will cause frustration for many. It will require a lot of patience and persistence. It took me a total of 16-17 days practice!

+Isac Saleh Actually I have buy a classical guitar only to learn this song, 3 days of practice and I can already play the first minute, but I think that's because I started learning fingerstyle with this song, so maybe my fingers get used for the first time with this pattern.. I got a lot more trouble with the "far horizon" track you made -__- Anyway thx a lot for your work !!
@IsacSalehGuitar9 жыл бұрын
+Kevan Vries Hassel Well done, impressive! That means you have flexible fingers, or maybe long fingers? This song is much harder than Far Horizons, or for me it was. The styles of the arrangements are a bit different. Far Horizons was originally made by Harry Murrell, I've just modified some parts of it to replicate the OST, but the majority of that arrangement is Harry Murrell's style. He often uses arpeggios and a lot of switches, while I try to keep all notes close and switching to a minimum for a smooth transition, which is also why I transpose more often and use strange tuning, as the one in this song. It's fun to learn new styles though! Keep going strong!

Listening to your rendition of Gwyn's theme and reading all the positive comments, I can't help but wonder if it isn't similar to the game of Dark Souls itself: time is convoluted. Heroic deeds made in the past, echoes through time inspiring the generations ahead. You may have just tried to do a cover justice, but instead you made yourself somewhat "immortal" through time. Always loved this piece. Especially how, while crafting a melancholic melody line to portray all of the death and destruction that has ensued along with Gwyn's realization that he must fade along with the last flame, Motoi Sakuraba throws in tritones every so often to instill a sense of unease both to portray Gwyn's broken mental state, but to also cue the player that this will, by no means, be an easy fight.

this is awesome, me just starting guitar how many years do you believe it will be till I'm capable of this?
@IsacSalehGuitar8 жыл бұрын
Thank you! It's hard to say how much practice you need... If you are a beginner, as in just started learning basic chords and single note melodies, this might take at least 4 years to master. It all depends on your learning ability, determination and the flexibility of your hand / fingers. If you try this as a beginner with finger style I suspect that your left hand is not so flexible yet, which means you would literally need to detach your fingers to reach some notes :P I recommend practicing on my easier arrangements to build your way up slowly. As your fingers get more flexible, you will be able to play the Medium difficulty and then Hard. Until you're ready for this one. If I added another difficulty to my arrangements, this would have "Nightmare" or "Hell" hehe... Playlist by difficulty can be found in my channel!
@josephbest27068 жыл бұрын
***** Oh It looks really difficult I told my friend I'd have to break my hand for this. how long do believe it would take to learn Souls of Fire? I'm a huge Dark souls fan, and I love the classical guitar so I cant wait to play it, I'm prepared to wait a while though... Also I only have a steel string as of now, what classical guitar would you recommend? I've heard Hohner guitars are great for the price.
@IsacSalehGuitar8 жыл бұрын
As a beginner it's best to start with a guitar that has a low saddle, meaning the strings would be closer to the frets, making it easier to play on and light to medium tension strings. I wouldn't buy anything below 150 dollars but instead aim for the 200-300 dollar class.The Alhambra 100 is pretty nice! Souls of Fire is a bit easier and as a beginner I think you can learn it within a year. You would need to learn some techniques first though

Beautiful rendition... When fighting Gwyn.... the feels... seeing a diety fallen to cinder... it must have been gut wrenching to surrender yourself to the flames... every time you unleash that killing blow...

Scale of 1-10, how difficult is this to perform? Considering attempting to learn
@IsacSalehGuitar4 жыл бұрын
Difficulty always depends on your prior experience and skills in finger-style and the amount of hours you put into practicing the specific song. In other words, difficulty is always relative. For me this song was outside the difficulty scale I use in my video descriptions, so if I had a difficulty above "Hard", this was "Nightmare" to me. Especially finger straining / hand cramping wise :P

Ichtyornis Crétacé Yes, it sounds better like this on classical guitar. Plus, playing it faster would be even more difficult.

Isac, I just want to say that you're a beast and an inspiration. I know this video is three years old, but I'm just discovering your channel. I was a few days away from selling my 12 fret Martin 028vs, when my wife-to-be begged me to keep it. I've always been an electric guitar guy and thought that nothing on a 12 fret could inspire me. I found your channel and man, I was dead wrong. I've been improving so much (after 15 years of playing at age 27) by watching your channel. I hope to someday play your arrangements as well as you do. Finger-style guitar has opened up a whole new world for me. Please keep up the great work and thank you for all that you do!

Fun fact: this song was only played using white strings to represent that it was Gwyn, the White Lord! Pretty smart of Hideo Kojima to hide hat reference there eh?
