Elle est extraordinaire dans cette pièce. Elle a conservé le médium charnu du mezzo qu'elle fut brièvement, et emmène toute cette largeur et chaleur sur toute son étendue.

Most people associate Gwyneth with Wagner and Strauss. But she also sang many other composers, with distinction: Verdi, Puccini, Bellini, Berlioz, Sibelius, Lehar. This drama catches her in fantastic form.

Wonderful, wonderful performance. A lot of sources say this was in 1972, but I’m pretty sure it’s actually 1970. It’s named as such on one website and the hair and clothes are more of that moment. (I’m a big fan, clearly!)

Je regrette de ne pas saisir le sens des mots. Crespin a-t-elle chanté cette pièce ? Avec elle le texte aurait été compréhensible. Mais la tessiture était sans doute trop tendue pour elle.
