Excellent video👍 i ordered one of these 3 weeks ago just out of curiosity but still waiting for it lol. These are not made by MR LI I emailed his team on their thoughts and they kindly responded saying they have been trying to develop a yale pick/decoder but due to the keyway they have struggled to implement it due to the keyway design, in their first design they encountered the same issues you identified and deemed it not suitable to produce at that time, but are still working on it. I can assume some one else copied their first design and decided to give it ago, I'm still looking forward to getting mine just to settle my curiosity 🤣

Great review on the Lishi pick, I would like one but I just can't justify the cost of one for my hobby and now you've just explained some of the pitfalls with it so I'm going to keep my cash a bit longer, Cheers ;-)

I’m conflicted. On one hand, it’s kinda cool seeing Lishi used on a Yale-type night latch... on the other hand, it looks sort of useless for the reasons you mentioned. You are a skilled lock picker and the tool (not you!) just looked clumsy and on the edge of destroying itself. Hand picks on a night latch would be in in a quarter of the time and more reliably (and cheaply too!). Great vid

Hit the nail on the head there mate! Unless someone comes up with some magic way to vertically navigate the Yale profile, a Y1 lishi will be pointless. In America where they re key locks as standard I can see the point but here we have 0 need to decode a yale lock.
@tipenengapuhi3 жыл бұрын
That Yale Lishi doesn't look like it was manufactured by either Original Lishi (Mr Li's company) or Genuine Lishi (UK company Tradelocks). Ah you answered my question at the end - Sourced from Alibaba

I've found it's easiest for me, not using the tension arm, I just hold the main body and give it light tension. I suppose everyone just does what feels comfortable. I have the AM5.

@@GxAxV Yeah I found a demo of the UK Lockpickers 6B version. I'm interested in the 6-pin version anyway. I was wondering if it could pick open a Kasp 19070X fully shrouded padlock. But I think the spinner plate and jagged bottom opening would prevent proper tool insertion without modification to the Lishi.

Well, it's good to know that a full collection of lishi picks won't work in every pin tumbler lock. I thought that maybe its system wouldn't work in some specialised locksmith registered keyway profiles anyway. Glad you've confirmed it.

would be interesting to see it in 6 pin type. I've picked all Yales that I have, but one star euro has been my nemesis for a while now, I can tell that it has no spools and feedback is weird like its some sort of weird serrated pins. Yet again I haven't seen factory Yale with serrated pins. Drives me crazy.
@GxAxV3 жыл бұрын
Yes some absolutely do have all Gege style serrated pins and even all the key pins are the same. The way how you tell is look at the bottom of the 1st pin in the lock. If it’s the crazy pins then you will see a little step at the bottom of that 1st key pin.

I can tell you that I bought a lishi because of all the videos and reviews of people talking it up and I was thinking wow these much be really easy and idiot proof I have been picking locks a long time and to be honest I cant stand the damn thing I feel like I am gonna break the damn thing it the lock has any type of weather let's say it's on a door that's not inside a building like most of the locks you are going to come across will be the lishi really has a hard time also if the person who installed the lock didnt perfectly line it up with the frame and the deadbolt has pressure on it because it's being smashed into the frame the lishi is useless also if. someone just torqued down the screws in which hold the lock together welp the lishi is useless again so realistically the lishi will pretty much only open locks in which a bump key will work in which isn't many at least if the lock has been used for any amount of time of course the instructions say to lclean and lubricate the lock with an electrical cleaner spray then insert a key back and forth 25 times then use a silicone spray and then insert a key back and forth another 25 times then use the lishi . I was hoping it would help with the badly weathered ones at the least be able to decode and cut a key for the lock but honestly I feel like the decoding feature is worse then the picking instrument on these tools. I have tried to pick three different locks with it and I was able to get one maybe a handful of times out of probably 50 tries for retrospect I can hand pick it everytime and with in ten seconds or less the other two I couldn't get the lishi to work on I was able to hand pick in under a minute very disappointed

Would it work better if the pick bit was thinner, or had a shorter head?

Marking wouldn’t change but the full length key blade supports the pick tip. Thinner better yes but a weaker tool

These picks absolutely do make it harder than it needs to be! I understand the American locks are much easier than our Yale profiles and it’s the pick that is failing here. With hand picks it’s less than a minute SPP every time.
@montoyanathan602 жыл бұрын
@@GxAxV I don't understand how you could say that Yes yale locks are a lot different But there's really no difference there's either 5 or 6 pens you just made it look harder than it was when I watched you do the locks I've seen people do it a lot easier than you the way you were bouncing them you made it look so complicating when I didn't even need to be like that like you purposely did it did it trust me I know I've already done it with these but these. American locks can also be difficult But I don't know where you're getting this idea of people using hand picks is easier becuase 95% of people cant do it.
@GxAxV2 жыл бұрын
@@montoyanathan60 sorry definitely got to disagree on most of that. In the kwickset and schlage for example there is no spool pins and the tool mothers smoothly through the vertical path of the keyway. The Yale keyway means the picking tip has to move around corners. The bouncing to test pins is known by anyone who has experience with lishi tools And the same with auto locks. I did not make this particular lock look harder than it was that’s just how hard it was to use the YALE lishi.
@mickconnolly57843 жыл бұрын
The yale lishi your using are knock offs and there really not good the original lishi are the best and the original lishi have the left side one available for the door on the right but i can promise you the Chinese knock offs are awfully the decoding is a train wreck But the original lishi cant be beaten very very good
@GxAxV3 жыл бұрын
There is no original lishi for these locks. This is the only option as of yet.

@@GxAxV yes thats true the residential line is new for them they are going to have all eventually this month the schlage sc20 for l keyways is coming out i have preordered already it's just a waiting game every couple of months new ones come out but i have a lot of friends that have tried knock offs and not real good some may but the decoder is a wreck and vice versa if you can stick with the original lishi or try and hold out till made but as you said that's the only option at the moment and you have to do what you have to that's for sure
@GxAxV3 жыл бұрын
@@mickconnolly5784 I totally agree for all the lishi that’s out for American locks atm like Schlage kwickset American and best etc, 100% buy original lishi like I have. But for this profile (Yale) I do t see lishi managing to make one that works well enough to sell any time soon. Not only that but the market for it in he UK where we do not re key locks is very lacking.
