Bob - great video. Changed the fluid on my 2012 yesterday. I used the paper clip jumper for the OBD reader fitting and it worked like a charm. I was a little aprehensive but I read the instructions several times first. You made a very important point regarding the amount of fluid to add. I collected and measured what came out and added a sufficient amount to assure it was too much. When it reached the approved temperature the extra simply drains out when you pull the overflow plug. There is some waste by overfilling but it is way better to overfill than under fill and having to add more complicating the process further.

Doesn't matter. I have been using the 2012 manual for the longest time as my resource. The 2010 Lexus GX and up all have the same mechanical platform to work to. Sparkplug, transmission, oil change, coolant flush, etc....only difference between the years is the minor trim changes to the exterior and interior such as the radio. For example, The bottom portion of the Navi/Radio unit is different from 2010-2013 from 2014 and up. Things like that you can pretty much figure out on your own.

Thanks for the thorough video. I believe some recommend pinning open the transmission fluid thermostat. I’ve found pinning it open will prevent the temperature from climbing too fast as the coolant will heat up the transmission fluid even though it’s idling.
@GXBOB2 ай бұрын
Yes, but if you did a good job with preparation, and have everything in its place including your temp reading, and your Allen key, you'll have ample time to perform the task without adding unnecessary steps. It also leads to some folks forgetting to release the pin after they've put back the overflow bolt.
@EmpTy-kf2rq2 ай бұрын
Understood. I use a Scan Gauge2 to view my temps. I find that once I hit 115, quickly drain the excess fluid, plug it back up and quickly look at my SG2, the temperature is about 130F. If I pin it open, the TFT will be in the low 120s. I’m in AZ and I do my transmission drain & fills in the summer so the coolant/engine warms up too quick! Also, why do you also recommend replacing the drain bolts? I’ve been just replacing the crush washers.

LS has a rear wheel drive and holds a 8 speed auto tranny while the GX is a 4wd and holds a 6 speed auto tranny. Obviously you're not going to do a full flush from a dry capacity transmission, i'd buy buy 6 or 7 quartz and keep the receipt to return what i don't open at the end of the drain/fill. If anyone is OCD about torque, the pan fasteners tightening should be done in 25% increments. First pass torque to 15 in-lbs, second pass to 30 inch-lbs, 3rd pass to 45 in-lbs, final pass to 62 inch-lbs. This gives a more even compression of the gasket and you are less likely to create gaps at the sealing surfaces.

Another great video that helps demystify the dreaded sealed transmission on Toyota Lexus. Bob- do you know if that scan tool also allows you to program tpms sensors? I'm looking for something that does both, trans temp and tpms programming. Keep up the great content. GX community appreciates it

@landcruiser7936 The Toyota 1.0 and 2.0 scanners i reviewed do not support TPMS sensor programming on their own. Because TPMS sensor programming is an extended feature, it requires a separate tool such as the LAUNCH CRT5011E or the X431+ TSGUN Tire Pressure Gun in order to use it. Below are the links to these two products: LAUNCH 5011E: amzn.to/4eTgvI4 X431+ TSGUN:amzn.to/3YewCKQ

What does Lexus dealer charge to do this?
@GXBOB2 ай бұрын
Every dealership charges different prices. I've heard between $250 to $600 depending on the extent of service you want done to your tranny. Basic drain/fill with filter with full flush, etc....

Why Bob why? Why not a month early? Just paid 800$ at lexus 😢😢😢. Best wishes for you Bob 🙏

800? I’m doing this my self. I can afford the extra tools at that price too.

My Lexus dealership told me it's a lifetime fluid and didn't want to change it. So I guess I'll be doing it myself now

I always tell my guys. There's no stupid question, but there's a stupid person asking a question. 😂

A lot of the guys and most of the girls watching were wondering where the front of the vehicle was?

Last weekend I was in Vienna and I saw the guy that looked exactly like Bob. When I walked up to him and said 'Hello Bob, my "girlfriend" would like to make out with you..', he gave me that weird look and walked away. At that point I knew it wasn't Bob.
@GXBOB2 ай бұрын
@@chopperpl Definitely not Bob. But if you said “hey I brought my family dog and my biological sister” then maybe you’d have a better chance of finding Bob.

whoa.. creader elite 2? do i need an upgrade now?
@GXBOB3 ай бұрын
The original creader works fine. Its just that the new one has larger RAM, detacheable cord so you can stow away, newer operating system so its a little quicker, and bigger battery.
