GY6 150cc 4-stroke Chinese engine VALVE ADJUSTMENT tutorial [Easy] [No-Nonsense]

This is a SIMPLE, fast-paced and no-nonsense valve adjustment tutorial for all GY6 4-stroke engines. This applies to most Chinese or Taiwanese scooter brands, such as Taotao, Sym, Jonway, etc.
A valve adjustment is a crucial part of engine maintenance and can affect performance and how well an engine starts and idles. Non-adjusted valves can cause the engine to stall frequently and damage the engines over time.

Excellent video bud. I just today adjusted my valves on my gy6 150cc tao tao. I began having hard starting, then no start at all. Spark seemed a little weak, but new stator didn't fix it. Took out carb, and that looked good. So had spark, had gas, next stop, compression. I suspected my valves were out of adjustment right from the start. About 18k miles on the scoot and never adjusted them. What I did not know about valves out of adjustment is you can begin to lose compression. When I checked mine I could barely get the .001 feeler in there, so did the adjustment .004 intake and .005 exhaust and she fired right up. Now i suspect a oil leak to start real soon, lol, valve cover gasket. Thanks for the video. Gave you the like, you should've gotton more views in my opinion. Thanks again.

An oil leak due to stripping out one of the 4 screws on the valve cover? Yes, that sucks for sure. The material is super fragile because it's meant to dissipate heat. The good news is that you can try to salvage it by using a longer screw of the same spec. I once stripped out a corner of the valve cover and used a different, longer screw, and ta-da! Had enough material to grab on to to prevent a leak. Best of luck

@@GTAIVisbest Oh no i was joking about the leak, I didn't strip the thread on head or bolts, just anticipating I will need a new valve cover gasket. Thanks for the tip tho, if it ever happends

@@GTAIVisbest Will this method also work on my 2005 Moroccan Kahn QB1NE? It's only 15 years old, but I want to make sure the gaskets are still well sealed. Should I just upgrade to the H4R3M model? Please respond

So like thank God for this video! We had 4 scooters that have been just sitting up in our shop, some for years, because we could not figure out what the hell was wrong with them. They were all doing the same thing and we literally changed everything even the motor... And come to find out on both Motors the valves were too damn tight... So I tried this on one of the scooters, and bamm!! Runs perfectly!! but just to make sure it wasn't luck I tried it on another one, and it worked again, so now I'm finishing up the other two right now. Thank you so much for this very easy tutorial! I just got one question though, why do you have to take out the spark plug?

Wow! I'm happy this video actually helped someone in the end. I'm going to add some information since you're actually fixing some in the real world, some thing you should know: 1. I believe torque spec for the adjuster nuts is like 84 inch lbs. Please make sure you tighten to spec or else they may not be tight enough and you'll have to redo them after a month or two as they progressively get out of spec. 84 Inch Lbs and you won't have issues. 2. Make sure you follow the tightening procedure correctly for the valve cover and you'll be fine As for the spark plugs, it's possible to do a valve check without taking it out. But when you try to get your piston to TDC (Top Dead Center), because of the immense pressure built up in the compression chamber, it'll often "skip" right over TDC and you'd have to try over and over again and risk not getting it quite right. Pull the spark plug out and there won't be any built up pressure in the engine, so you won't have an issue

@@GTAIVisbest I see! Yeah the one I'm working on right now was doing that and I had to go super slow because it kept skipping past. I'll take out the spark plug the next time just to make it easier on myself. But yeah thank you so much for the info I come back to this video every time I do one just to make sure I'm doing everything right.
