I tried this today, great instructions, however It is a little bigger than i thought it was going to be, so can I make it smaller???? The backing when I cut the pattern out is 9 1/2 by 6 1/2, the pocket size is 6 1/2 by 4 inches Yes even though I am i Canada, much prefer standard measurements!!! AGain thank you for this video, I plan on making many more. I still have the mate to make!!

@@patwilkie3398 you can for sure make them smaller. You'll have to decide your measurements and then add back in a seam allowance

I found this video today and whipped up a set of pot pinchers to match my mom’s extra long runner style hot pad for large gatherings! I procrastinated as we celebrated her birthday tonight but boy these came together just in the nick of time! She LOVED them! I will be making SO many more of these for teacher gifts and small Christmas gifts for our ministers and Sunday school teachers! Thanks for a simple and clear tutorial!

I added the second layer of insulbrite to the other full piece not the pockets because the pockets will be on the other side of your hands when picking up something hot

Good idea. However, I'm know to use my hot pads and oven mitts for other "hot" items. So I like to protect myself on all sides. :)
@auntdee9678 Жыл бұрын
So you only used the one piece of insulbrite? I think I'd rather do it this way too. thanks. Did you use a single piece or double it?
@sewsimplehome Жыл бұрын
@@auntdee9678 I used a piece of insulbrite for the the main body and a piece for each pocket. But you can decide where you need to use it for yourself. You can also add thermaflec for a little more heat protection

I made a pot holder (basic square one) and had bought some Pellon 975 Insul-Fleece Thermal Lining Fabric at Wal-Mart. It even had a picture of potholders on the bag but when I opened it and read the inside back cover, it stated that for hot stuff (400 degrres+) to use a layer or two of cotton batting. I went ahead and did that and pushed my Singer Heavy Duty machine to it's limit. I couldn't even close the end up using the machine where I had turned it. I had to cut out all that batting. Pain in the butt. Does Insul-Bright instructions say that too?

I have not seen that as instructions. For this project I used my main cotton fabrics and Insul-bright. No problems and have used them for months. You can see the full materials list here: www.sewsimplehome.com/2023/08/mini-pot-pincher-oven-mitt-pattern.html

Can I use wrap and zap instead of insulbrite?
@sewsimplehome8 ай бұрын
That would also work. But you may need an extra layer to keep your hands from burning when pulling hot items out.

I saw a video where you take the pocket with the opening and inside it out at the end and then sew the opening then inside it out back.

Interesting. You'll have to try and report back. Thanks for sharing

How do you know if it is going to fit your hands?
@sewsimplehome5 ай бұрын
Pot holders are a one size fits all project typically. So unless you usually have to alter store bought oven mitts, these will work.
