2002년부터 이어져오고 있는 경복궁 수문장 교대의식은 조선시대 왕실 호위문화를 상징하는 대표적인 전통문화행사입니다.
‘조선왕조실록’ 수문장제도의 시행 기록을 역사적 근거로 하여 재구성되었습니다.
수문장은 조선 시대에 왕궁의 주요 출입문을 관리하며, 궁궐의 보안과 방어를 책임지던 관리였습니다.궁궐의 출입을 통제하고 외부인의 출입을 감시하는 역할을 수행했습니다.
궁궐 내외의 질서를 유지하고, 외부로부터의 침입을 방지하는 것이 주요 임무였습니다.
수문장은 일정 시간마다 교대 근무를 하며 경비를 이어갔습니다.교대의식은 군사적 규율과 왕권을 상징적으로 보여주는 중요한 절차였습니다.
이 행사는 당시의 복식 및 무기 등을 복원하여 조선시대 군인들의 모습을 생생하게 재현하는 것에 초점을 맞추고 있습니다.
