Jessica's point re: Kerri Strug's parents speaking to the Karolyis about how they could treat her, really highlights how different things could have been for Dominique M had her parents (aka father) been looking out for her rather than giving Bela full permission to treat her poorly/abusively. How sad!

It is sad, and kerri made a point of supporting Dominique back in the day by saying that her experience was different from Dom's. Also, kerri's book has a lot of pearls of wisdom from how her parents saw gymnastics and protected their daughter. Kerri I believe, deserves more credit in the gymnastics world. She couldn't help that the non gymnastics community gave her vault more "credit" to the detriment of the rest of the team. In retrospect, we've given more credit to gymnasts than Kerri who arguably did less to advance gymnastics in the US. Aside from the vault, she really did make other important contributions to the team in 96, 92 and multiple world championships. Just some thoughts...

@@carolynrabbani6469 Oh I haven't read Kerri's book! Agreed that she's often underrated, she was always so solid in my memory. Glad her parents were looking out for her! Wish for her sake, all the vault pressure wasn't placed on her and she actually had a choice. And that Bela hadn't stolen her moment. 🙄

As a Utah Ute graduate, I really wanted to like Skinner. In addition to the attitude problem, I could just never get on board with the sloppy gymnastics.

15:09 as a German I can tell you that you can eat Brezel with pretty much anything. Ham, salami, cheese, butter, jam, honey, avocado, applesauce... the possibilities are endless. It's an amazing food 🤤

I think if you chat at all with any of the phenomenal individuals who made up the Karolyi 6-pack (highly recommend), they would likely tell you that the relationship they had training with Bela and Martha was vastly different from what they witnessed in the more carefree relationship Nadia and Mary Lou seemed to have with the Karolyi's. But, as you pointed out, we sometimes remember our experiences differently as we grow up. Plenty of the 85-88 quad Karolyi gymnasts hold a lot of respect and admiration for the duo, and they should never feel differently. It's their experience and they were there daily. Lastly, it seemed comical at the time for quiet Kerri in the wake of Atlanta 1996 to pull back a little bit of the curtain knowing that Bela was sometimes a scary man, but that she knew she needed his intensity to make it to the Atlanta Olympics.

I don't understand why having kocian and locklear on the team would be a significant improverment over douglas and kocian??? Douglas scored 15.766 at the olympics twice on Uneven Bars and thats the only event they used her for. Can you please explain that?

I think the fact that some of the CSAM was actually committed WHILE A PARENT was in the room with the doctor, contributed to there being "plausible deniability" in terms of what Marta knew or didn't know. Not to defend the Karolyis because they DID abuse kids, but people who commit CSAM are incredibly manipulative and influential in keeping victims quiet. Sadly, we've probably all heard of cases of moms who never suspected their husbands or sons were abusing their daughters, etc.

Well, Jessica doesnt need botox or fillers, so I wouldn't do it either if I were here. A lot of us > 30 need it.

Botox for migraine, sure, but don't do it for non-medical reasons, Simone.
