The Marines recruit more for track and field type of athletes than weight lifting meatheads. You will not be viewed with respect as an athlete and even as a Marine in general if you fall out if a run or a "hump," a long march through tough terrain with heavy gear, even if you can bench press a car. There are body builders in the USMC, but they have to have strong cardio or they will be viewed as unfit ("unsat" using their term) to be a Marine.

More like the course killed her. If you stop after each obstacle you lose the momentum which is crucial to getting over the higher barriers and bars.
@RH-dw6ie4 жыл бұрын
@lucaboden I meant the other activities. Swinging on bars or jumping on these bunny hops. In Gymnastics you 'need' to be small. On floor the tumbling area is 12×12m so very small but you need to fit a double layout salto in it (she does that at the beginning of the video) and the beam (her best event in the elite time, when she also beat Simone Biles) is as wide as a smartphone, so small feet help there too. Over all layouted skills are credited more so as a small person you don't have to tumble as high to do them. Rope climbing is a common exercise in Gymnastics but often without legs in a straddled (feet apart) or piked (feet together) (for both legs in a 90° angle and knees straight). In these activities she has a huge disadvantage because of her height. Also remember that she is out of real training for about a year. Swinging bars is about height. If you compare the gymnasts that won a medal on uneven bars you'll notice how most of them are quite tall. Thats because you really need to use the momentum your body gives you.

This is not a standard obstacle course. It was easier. In real life the men go through the obstacle course and women get helped through it. Women shouldn't be in the military for that reason. If they didn't get all the extra help they couldn't complete the course as individuals.
@lindadoyle5253 жыл бұрын
@@StingofTruth You may be somewhat right in physical competition, but I was in the Army and women competed alongside men. Yes, the standard was not equal, but each group was required to meet at least the lowest requirements. I don’t agree that not being able to keep up with men is a reason not to have women in the military.
@StingofTruth3 жыл бұрын
@@lindadoyle525 if it isn't equal then nothing else should be equal. Women don't have to sign up for selective service, 80% of women in the military don't believe women should be allowed in active combat but should still be allowed to receive combat pay. Medical staff, yes. chaplains, yes. Jag, yes. Clerical roles, yes. Why? Because those receive training which are not gender bias or sensitive. In other words those are even in an egalitarian manner. Combat, physically strenuous roles, different story. If they can't do what their male counterparts do they need booted out. It's bad enough momma has control of the military now and has sissified the American soldier, but now the female soldiers are even more sissified. WW1 WW2 Vietnam Desert storm Iraqi freedom Those are the generations my family served in as far back as we can trace. The 2nd-3rd generations were real soldiers (we never knew the ww1 family member because he date raped my great gramma and my grandpa who served in ww2 european theater was the result of that but the ww1 vets i met as a child were on par with the ww2, korean,and nam soldiers I've met and served) even my oldest brother who was the desert storm generation was fairly comparable to the vietnam soldier. But the ones being turned out today are something else. We went from the best generation to the best of intentions generation in less than 100 years. But i digress... One standard, no help, no special treatment. Either pass or fail, no grading on a curve, no second chances. That's how it needs to be. That's how it was up until the 90's

@Alchemica Blackwood I'm sure Michelle meant she crushed it in regards to her height. She is half Austen's height. Imagine if everything was 2x higher when Austen had to do the course. To give you another example, imagine the course contained a tunnel you'd have to crawl through that was very narrow. It would be physically impossible for Austen to get through the tunnel due to his size. The fact that she was able to do what she did, on a course that isn't meant for short people, is incredible.

Give her a bit of training, let her get used to it and she won't need help anymore. She's just an amateur doing it for fun, chill out. Also sharing an opinion that is the same as a woman's one doesnt mean you're playing the white knight... Nor that you are "weak-minded"... What kind of mentality do you have??
@negin18124 жыл бұрын
As females YOU may indeed rely on your lower body strength, but Katelyn is a professional gymnast and you can't even imagine how strong your shoulders and core have to be to do a single press to handstand. And one thing that blowed my mind that she couldn't do a college boy roll (I'm not an English guy so I have no idea how it's called properly). I mean really? This exercise is the easiest thing you can do on a bar, its about basic core strength and a single pull up. And she can't do it? Idk looks really strange
@abhilasha96084 жыл бұрын
@Alchemica Blackwood Well the gymnast *did* crush it! She is a strong woman who has two physical disadvantages: Her short height, and a previous injury. @Jazzykatt234 жыл бұрын
Nationofshen do you have a complex or something? I’m apparently an idiot for pointing out a fact. She performed very well on the course. The only difficulty she had was reaching the high bars. Extra height would’ve given her a better advantage. Bottom line is she can outperform most people on that course.

At 4'10, she is literally the absolute bottom height for a female marine. And to still do THAT well on basically a first run just proves what strong athletes gymnasts are

4’8 is the minimum. But non the less impressive.

@@carlosdelamora4917 Nah. She might be just over 100 though. Muscle weighs a lot and she has a lot of muscle in her legs. Edit: just checked and Google says she is 106lbs

She's been doing gymnastics a long time. Her parents were extremely supportive and kind towards her. So we're the two guys in this video being encouraging towards her. Anyone who thinks their job is friggin easy is extremely delusional. They can handle challenges very well.

Rope climb wasn't fast at all and didn't look easy for her.
@soobie2bmw_m3613 жыл бұрын
Im in the marines, they teach you to use your legs when climbing the rope. The only purpose your arms serve is to hold you while you bring your knees to your chest to push you upwards. This chick climbed the whole damn thing with just her arms. Thats incredible muscular endurance. Oh, and she did it twice.
@britneyg55223 жыл бұрын
Actually in a normal elite gymnastics training the legs are usually in a straight piked position while climbing the rope (using arm strength for the most part). So that's probably a gymnastics habit.
@agentp8213 жыл бұрын
@@britneyg5522 yeah and it’s also core strength to hold your legs up there

@@britneyg5522 kinda right but i have the same habit of not using legs for the rope since i dont weight much, tbh climbing the rope is really easy when you are lightweight

I think climbing the rope would be too easy for her if the rope is a bit thinner since you can get a much firmer hold on it ..but she pretty much ace the rope climbing ..
