it’s even crazier when you realize larry nassar is one of the people “helping” her and all those coaches were abusing their athletes.

I think Shannon Miller seems like a sweetheart. Look at her leave her place in line to lift Kerri onto the podium and then she waits to help her down even though everyone else is already filing out.
@Elisheval
@Elisheval 8 жыл бұрын
I know, you'd think the team captain, Bordin would see to it... I guess it's just an honorary thing. I was stunned to find out that Miller suffered from ovarian cancer - and is so far (and god willing) cancer free for over 5 years. That's amazing with ovarian cancer... it's more often then not, fatal within a year.

Elisheval I think it also has to do with placement and timing Shannon is closer, so it's easier for her to get to Kerry whereas Amanda she's all the way at the other end.

If you watch the video you will see Shannon and Amanda were discussing who would help Kerri. It's Moceanu and Chow that only cared about themselves and Dawes but that's par for the course with her.

To the 32 year old who acts like a 5 year old: Some of us like coming back to this video and remembering the moments that defined our childhoods. Though I am not a gymnast, the way Kerri pushed through her injury was an inspiration to me later in life in the sports I did end up competing in. This team deserved their gold, just like it deserved silver in Athens and in Beijing. And they will deserve whatever they get tomorrow night.

This year was the only year I ever watched the Womens Olympic gymnastics team with interest, and actually cared about it. If I could name a Olympic dream team, The Magnificent 7 would be it. There never was nor ever will be a team like this. Kerri pulled off the improbably, the probablility that she could land that last vault, and get enough points to beat the Russians was nothing short of a miracle, even though it was later known we didn't need it. Way to get it done.

She seems very sad in this… which I never quite realized before. Lost in time and space, unfocused in the moment the national anthem is playing and going in and out of recalling the words. As we all know this catastrophic injury ended her gymnastics career at age 18 (moderate sprain my ass). To be honest all I can think of that she might be feeling up on that podium is that this moment of Olympic gold and glory did not manifest the way she thought it would. It was supposed to be triumphant. And while she demonstrated incredible feats of heroics, somehow she looks broken. Both physically and emotionally. The distress of the moment - the one in which she knows she must perform superhumanly despite being being hurt, unable to escape or shrink back from the pressure of the world and the fate of her teammates and coaches’ lifelong dreams riding on her - to have everything come crashing down and the only choice being to destroy every part of yourself (physical, mental, emotional) just to save yourself from the failure. Talk about traumatic. That ordeal must have blacked her out in some ways for the rest of that night. She seems to be both numb and holding back tears. Poor Kerri. A true hero she was though. I’m very sad to see it came at her future’s expense.

i somewhat agree but at the same time, 2008 would've been a disaster if Nastia and Shawn weren't 1 and 2 in the world. They carried the team to the silver medal, dominated the all around and won almost every silver medal in the event finals. They were just unreal. In terms of team effort and camaraderie though, 1996 and 2012 gave team performances that really overshadowed any individual performance. 2008 was more individual in my mind due to Shawn and Nastia's dominance.

The 2008 team with Nastia and Shawn was pretty great imo. The rest of their team wasn't bad either but some were injured. The score very high scores along with the Chinese. Hope you watched the London game.
