These are all so heartbreaking. Bross’s injury was so bad and hard to watch. Thanks for this though, it’s good to have all of these in one video. Aliyas vault was so good til that landing. Imagine if Ellie actually tried that 2nd vault. So glad she stopped.

Makes me sick. My male landlord sexually assaulted male tenants for years. He was married to a woman and had 3 adult children. He was known to SA men for years. He was a deacon in his church and acted hyper religious all the time. When I complained about him SA me, I was then illegally evicted from my home of over 16 years. @@leelab8307 Team Romania would also like a word. Pushing the limits in elite gymnastics was ALWAYS a thing. Yes if you look at gymnastics from 1970-2024 it looks like a big jump, but it’s just been a slow progression. Also if anything, gymnastics is getting way safer, with abuse being called out(still pretty bad though), and athletes not being pushed to peak early, so we are seeing way more gymnasts in their 20’s and 30’s.
@rebmaslmbr3450
@rebmaslmbr3450 5 ай бұрын
That's just not true. Literally just watching a routine from back then it's pretty obvious the safety rules weren't nearly as strict. For the uneven bar routine the bars were closer together, gymnasts were bouncing there hips off of the bars which was sure to leave bruising, they were standing on the bars or doing tricks over the bars. On the floor they would do these crazy diving tricks that, if gone wrong could end up seriously gnarly, and on beam they did these tricks too. Maybe the routines were safer because you weren't doing gymnastics on an olympic level but what you're saying doesn't add up with routines you can find here on youtube from back then

Did any of them continue their careers?
@zyxcba126

All of them continued their careers. Riley McCusker: Injury occurred at 2021 Winter Cup. She went on to compete at the US national championships and Olympic trials that same year on uneven bars only, with some feeling her work was strong enough that she should have made the team. She currently is competing at the University of Florida with two years of eligibility remaining. However, she has not competed vault nor floor since this injury and missed the 2024 NCAA season with injury. Aliya Mustafina: Injury occurred at the 2011 European Championships All-Around Final. She went on to have one of the most storied gymnastics careers in the sports history. She competed at the 2012 Olympic Games only a year later where she became the most decorated gymnast of the competition, leaving with a gold on uneven bars, silver in the team and two bronze medals in the all-around and on floor. She repeated all but her floor medal at the Olympics in Rio four years after that in addition to a multitude of medals won in 2013-2018, including winning the world title on beam in 2013. She retired in 2020 and is currently coaching the Russian junior national team. Rebecca Bross: Injury occurred at the 2011 national championships. She returned a year later, competing at the 2012 national championships and Olympic trials on bars and beam. She hit 3/4 of her bars routines and was a bit shaky on beam. She did not compete vault or floor after her injury and retired shortly after missing the Olympic team. I think she’s currently a nurse though someone can correct me if I’m wrong. Ellie Black: Injury occurred at the 2012 Olympic Games. She’s competed every single year since then and is the best gymnast Canada has ever produced. She has three world championship medals (the most for a Canadian gymnast) including a silver in the all-around in 2017 (best finish by a Canadian to date) and placed 5th in the all-around in Rio and 4th in the balance beam in Tokyo. She made several individual finals at the world championships last Autumn and is guaranteed a spot on this summer’s Olympic team assuming she remains healthy. Asia D’Amato: Injury occurred at the 2022 European Championships. She’s competed in both 2023 and 2024, but both seasons have been cut short to ACL tears, at a World Cup in 2023 and just recently at the European championships this year.

And somehow this channel “forgot” to put in one of the MOST ICONIC vault injuries In gymnastics history, at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, where Kerry Strugg was the last to vault, the Russians were on their tail, Dominique Muceano had just landed on her ass both vaults, and after three rotations of near flawless, but difficult routines (bars, floor, and beam), they suddenly caved to the pressure and seemingly were falling apart, allowing Russia to gain traction. Kerry Strugg vaulted after Dominique, performing the same vault, and landed on her ass, just as her teammate and hurt her ankle. She was noticeably limping, and implemented mind over matter and vaulted like her life depended on it, sticking the landing beautifully for a mere second, saluting, and then standing and hopping on one foot, making her way to the floor, on all fours; obviously in pain. She was taken to the back and splinted up, Bela prevented the medical team from immediately taking her to the medical facility, as he told them her gold medal will come first, as she had earned it. He carried her for a victory lap around the gymnasium floor and with the help of Shannon Miller, she hopped up with the rest of her team (no pants; leotard and jacket only) and received a beautiful bouquet of mixed flowers and one of many medals now decorating her achievements. This was one story that had a happy ending, which Strugg proved to herself and the public that she WAS mentally tough, she could hold it together when it counted, and not fall apart, as the perception of American coaches, the team, the U.S. Gymnastics Organization, commentators, and the public’s perception was quite different. Strugg ended her career with a gold medal, although unable to compete due to the injury in the Individual All Arounds, which she had qualified for; regardless, she proved something to herself that day. Gold medal or no gold medal, she showed the world she was tough and had the ability to perform under the most intense pressure. That’s champion material and she was injured while vaulting.

I don't believe it is right to train kids to try to hurt each other in football or hockey or soccer. Or baseball for that matter. Tennis is not so violent and it is fun but games that injure or put stress on kids is something that should be reviewed. No wonder there is so much mental anguish. Gymnastics is brutal.
