These old archives are so interesting. How gym evolved this is crazy. The complexity of the movements in the eary 60's/70's/80's is impressive

There is something absolutely magical about Aliya on bars. Definitely one of my all time favorites. Also loved Nastia & Khorkina (what's remarkable about Khorkina is that was able to do the lower bar stuff with her long legs). And I think looking at the 50's & 60's bars routines, they were much harder than they look. A lot of upper arm strength. Thanks for this compilation!

In terms of actual composition and consistency (not lower than 15.3 for the entire year), Kaliya Nemour is the bars goat.

so interesting watching the old clips where the bars were the same distance apart as your hands and your hips. completely different set of skills that don't really look that easy!

This is a great video clip to watch and I leave an important footnote below: At 1:26 the Frenchwoman Émilie le Pennec's difficult trick reminds me of what Igor Cassina did at the men's high bar in Athens 2004.

The element is called the Hristakieva in WAG. It's named for the late Bulgarian gymnast Snejana Hristakieva who was the first to perform it on women's uneven bars. Snejana performed it successfully at the 1992 Olympics.

I did truly miss watching the Russian girls on bar the past couple of years. They are incredibly talented bar workers. So elegant!!

Even tho back then it seemed easier, I do greatly appreciate that they used the 2 bars and it wasn't just, as it is now, a glorified high bar routine.

Comaneci was an all arounder. as were Shannon Miller and Caslavska. If Miller was a specialist on any apparatus it was beam.
