nic to watch these routines again after many years.... Mohini alone deserved a medal of steel for those nerves...

Mohini's FX to me was the best on that team-and one of my favorites at those Games. To me she should have medalled in FX Finals. Carly and Courtney Kupets were fine tumblers and they could not dance. jmo.
@enchantedella64954 жыл бұрын
No, she shouldn't have. She missed the same jump all 3 times she performed this and never should have even made finals. They gave her credit in prelims when she didn't make it then either.
@josephqualtier9612 жыл бұрын
@@enchantedella6495 they were too harsh on dance elements and not harsh enough on tumbling in this code. You step out of bounds they hardly cared but you barely miss a dance connection or are slightly short on a turn? Three tenths in start value GONE

Way to go Carly i love her response " WE WON A SLIVER MEDAL AT THE OLYMPIC" yes they should be proud as an American i was proud. They didn't lose the gold they won a sliver..nothing given in gymnastic

OT but the U.S. team finals leo at Athens is probably my favorite U.S. Olympic leo.

@faeryquene I agree she was underscored in the EF. Her floor routine is one of my favorites also, and so is her bars routine, which she didn't get to perform in the TF.

Mohini had a low start value. Remember she needed 12 tenths of bonus to start from a 10.0 The DLO punch front was 0.3, the Full In was 0.2 and the Double Pike 0.1. That's six tenths. Cat Leap Double To Cat Leap 1.5 was another 2 tenths, so that's 8 tenths. She needed 4 more for a 10.0. The Popa Tuck Jump Double was worth 0.2 but only if she made the Tuck Jump Double around. In this video, it's clear she only made the Tuck Jump 1.5. So no bonus. The Gogean was worth 0.1, but I'm not sure she made that around either. I don't know what Start Value she was given here in TF, but she could have been given as little as a 9.6. She got a 9.3 and change, so her deductions can't have been very high. She was a little deep on the Full In. I don't think the score here, or in EF, was unfair at all.

I love this Code of points, the series were hard and original

no, there wasn't much originality or variety, many gymnasts did the same dance combinations (eg. the two cat leaps, triple spin into a full straddle jump, the double tuck jump etc); It was actually quite repetitive. Some of the really high value dance elements and combinations which we see today (e.g. double or triple wolf turns, double or triple Y and L turns) were either not yet invented or rarely trained.

Carly was sour in that interview afterwards.

I agree-but she was 16 and had struggled through the competition during that day. I thought she did pretty well. I suppose you have to learn to interview well even as a teen when you go to the Olympics.

Why are the coaches sending these girls to compete with these choreography?
@rockymcduffie86038 жыл бұрын
I would not have picked the team Martha had selected and I also would have taken Courtney off the team with the injury she was dealing with. Too much sentiment in my opinion went into the team. USA could have easily won gold had they brought the strongest team and perhaps given McCool a second shot in the TF.

What?! Kupets won nationals and trials, plus she won a bronze in EF. The real problem with USA was the design of their routines
@casualdrifter52264 жыл бұрын
Both Coutneys were guaranteed a spot due to their performance at trials. Coutney K was first and Courtney M was 2nd. Marta couldn't leave either Courtney off the team

agreed, even if Kupets and Bhardwaj totally hit their routines they still would have only had 9.8 and 9.9 SV which in that COP just weren't competitive. A routine designed to have a 10 SV was critical
