I was working as a carpenter for a year and a half until end of last spring and it’s a dangerous job because I lost my other job. a friend from school’s dad helped me out . I made good money but what good is that money if I’m crippled? now I’m working for a gym I go to and it’s way less money. get my point? fight another day .

Unfortunately it seems that many people competing at such a high level get injured at some point. It's the same with footballers and tennis players. Obviously the risk is higher for gymnasts because of the extreme physical demand, but there are many athletes who have been injured only to come back stronger and win medals. The ring gymnast petronious (not sure on spelling) was injured recently as well, but I'd bet money on him winning a gold at Tokyo.

Damn Nile, I feel for you so much! I'm a competitive runner. In June I was feeling as strong as i've ever been, won my first 5k, smashing my goals, then suddenly got hit by Plantar ligament tears in both feet from training too hard. I've been in and out of a wheelchair and boot cast's since mid June. Found your channel in July and you've been helping me smile and stay positive. Gwyneth Z. Gwyneth ok, we all watch NW’s channel & support it because we enjoy what & how he presents himself. It’s a bit much/overboard to say “this broke my heart &.... you deserve the best....”. I’m not trolling you nor belittling your feelings, there’s much more in life that should break your heart than a gymnastics YT being non threatening-injured because you think he deserves the best. The scenario of “cancer” I commented about before was someone I’ve known for 8+ years who died about a year ago; he was a good guy, married, 3 kids & no real stable family support; he was sick for almost 2 years (w/pain so bad his wife said he’d wished for death multiple occasions - cancer was caught early so it was treated aggressively in hopes it could be abated- it just slowed the growth). He was an everyday good guy taking care of his family & then the he’s gone, that to me is heart breaking. Along with the countless other world events that effect millions of people that are tragic, I’m not a heartless, jaded person. It’s the gravity of the situation I base my reactions on. I feel sympathy for NW being injured, again, but I’m not heartbroken; this is a problem that will eventually be medically taken care of, it may not be within the time frame he wants but we don’t always get what we want or what we work so hard for. I don’t know how to explain this any easier for you.
@gmuz99
@gmuz99 4 жыл бұрын
cbudzyn I understand what you’re saying and in my opinion, you are belittling my feelings and saying that my feelings are invalid. I’m a very sensitive person so there are a lot of things that break my heart. His dream has possibly been crushed when he had just gotten hope back. That’s heart breaking to me. Also, just because he doesn’t have a terminal illness or something else that’s horrible doesn’t mean he doesn’t deserve the best. Every good person deserves the best. Also, don’t talk to me about cancer. You have no idea what I, my family, or my friends have been through.

I found this channel when my little one broke her arm in half at level 3 doing a double backhand spring on floor. she was so upset about it. Could not compete, watched her team compete as she sat in the bleachers, watched all her teammates move up except her...just a morale killer to be in a cast so long. Found you to help with the pain mentally and physically a gymnastics injury entails. She realized she wasn’t alone and decided not to quit, and not to give up. she starts her season in two weeks 🙏🏽 “Everything happens for a reason”, even little ones at level 3 are lifted up by this motto. You’ve touched more people than you realize. You are more than qualifying, more than a medal. Own that, and you will succeed. Good luck 🍀👍🏻

I had the same injury and it's hard but I got through it. I had my up and my downs. I am so happy you found out about your nerve damage in a short space of time. It took me one and a half years to find out about my nerve damage. In that time I was in a lot of pain. I had scapula winging which made my shoulders uneven. I had people stare at me thinking I was weird but I learnt to work on strengthening my muscles. Today I'm ok it was a hard journey and I have learnt from it. I know you can show others that time can heal you and everyone can have a setback but the most important thing is that you come back stronger.

I am a much older man(49 years old) who suffered injuries from swimming, parachuting and weight lifting as a younger man. Don't overdo it mate because while you can treat with painkillers at the moment, later on it may not be so easy to treat the pain. I have had chronic pain for over a year now (upper back, neck, shoulder, right arm and right leg) and strangely enough the one thing I have found that has helped is a firm egg shaped rubbery ball that I squeeze when I am in pain, it seems to help fight the central nervous system sensitisation that kicked in after those injuries. Best of luck mate and be kind to yourself.

Nile, I have only recently discovered your channel and have been inspired by how you help those kids and transmit your passion of the sport to them. I know it must be disheartening to feel like your body doesn't allow you to go back to that place, but you will always have a place as an ambassador of the sport. Take good care of your health and if you can't make it back to that place, I think transmission to the younger generation is in your genes! As a 40 yo I can definitely feel the body cannot do as much, but you are still young and your body can recover. I suggest amping up your B vitamins, as they help repair damaged nerves faster! In Tennis, Del Potro sustained successive wrist injuries - he was never the top 1 he had the potential to become after that, but he still managed to come back several times after successive wrist surgeries, and even today, he can still win matches against the top players in the world. Right now you may feel down, but take it easy on yourself. A victory for you would be to compete again on an international level, and worst case you have your KZbin channel and can continue to inspire younger gymnasts!

Hi Nile. I am a figure skating coach now after training for around 22 years and then being hit with all my ankle ligaments being torn at the same time. Now, during my coaching years, I have fractured my spine L5/S1 and have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, a chronic pain condition, which is relatively severe. It is now putting my coaching in jeopardy as it worsens with the cold and the constant risk of falling on the ice. It is hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel but I have decided that in all of this I can help others, so I am working towards that now. I'm glad that you have the best help around you and I am sure you will come back stronger than ever. You are not alone, I have started to think of it as speed bumps in the road so that life slows you down to make you safer and stronger. Dont know if that helps but thought I would try at the risk of sounding daft lol

This is why I'm no longer a gymnast. I had to give it up due to injuries. Once I had nerve injury that kept reoccurring I decided it was time to move on. I was nowhere NEAR your level. I wasn't making money off being an athlete and I think that actually helped me make the decision. No one knows my name and I've never been to the Olympics. I just did it because I LOVED the feeling of growing and competing. I have TONS of medical issues from my days of gymnastics and swimming. Swimming became my go to because it was SOOO much easier on my joints. I did truly love competitive swimming. Not that it didn't cause previous injuries from flaring, but they didn't flare nearly as often. It was the way I was able to still be active, compete and have a team around me. I'm very fortunate I actually had TWO passions when it came to sports. ❤️ I know this was an incredibly hard time for you and of course, we know the ultimate outcome of this since it's a couple of years in the future but you are STILL changing lives and STILL able to enjoy your gymnastics, just in a different way now. I will say, once you let yourself fully decondition, things get so much worse! Now that I have a family and don't keep myself in the shape I was once in, the pain is much worse. So make it a goal that no matter where your life takes you in the future, you try to stay as conditioned as possible! It DOES make all the difference! I have a really hard time getting BACK into condition because it's so much harder to start over from square one with the pain. ❤️ There is NEVER anything wrong with getting help for mental health issues! I have done the same and take medication to help the depression and anxiety. Just remember... Gymnastics is NOT ALL you are! Just ALWAYS remember that.

Hey Nile, I just wanted to say, I appreciate your honesty and, really, your truthful positive message. I'm also an athlete, and in a way, I also made an identity for myself, largely based on my physicality. I had ligament damage to my shoulder 9 months ago and decided to let it heal naturally. Then 1 month ago I decided to have it surgically repaired. The operation didn't give me the visible result that I was anticipating, as you can still see a large bump on my shoulder, as well as a large scar now. I'm just healing now and trusting what is. I have had difficulty with mental health too, and felt very affected by my whole shoulder saga. However, I really know that everything does happen for a reason, and that it is all perfect. I also know that we can both take a huge amount of positivity and wisdom from our injuries and move forward with a new found sense of enthusiasm, gratitude and compassion. I wish you all the very best. Bless you. P.S. go vegan dude. much love

From where I sit, you're changing the game with this openness just as much as with cool merch or the body bible. And while I have never trained or achieved at the world-class level you do, I'll give you a thought in case the other thousand people didn't say it quite this way: mental health is just one more thing you can train to be better at. I've been at it for years and it doesn't always feel 'easy', but if you compare it to training for what you do as an athlete, you'll know that you have setbacks and then recover, that sometimes you need time off, and that sometimes it feels tough not because you're weak, but because what you've taken on at such a high level would challenge anyone. And Nile, if you don't see this, I'm still putting that out there for everyone who follows you. Big thumbs up.

So here we go....I'd like to share my story with you guys. I've literally been through hell recently. Pretty much the whole last year I was struggling with depression and anxiety. I was missing a lot at school and my life was rubbish. But Nile was always there to put smile on my face. And now when I've finally managed to keep positive attitude to life I just want to show my gratitude and support. So keep it up Nile . We all believe in you and trust me when I say it WILL get better. PS English's not my first language so please excuse possible mistakes

Oh man, seeing you in this situation is very sad and I feel very helpless because I want to help, but I can't do much. You're a such incredible living person that helped and still help me so hard to deal with life in general. When I found out you I was in a deep depression and your attitude about life and your humor and the humor of your family helped me so much. I just want to say that I wish the BEST for you and I have certain that you will overcome this situation because you're a amazing person and deserve all the good things the world had. Good feelings from Brazil!

Thank you so much for sharing all of your injuries and mental struggles. I'm a dancer who competes on an elite/world level and it makes me feel so much better to know that I am not alone in my struggles in training. I've had 5 fractures in the past 6 years and have had to deal with the mental damage that being out of my sport for so often has caused. It has really helped to watch your videos to know that other elite athletes go through this kind of stuff too. I wish you speedy recovery

Eidorian Eagle not necessarily , ive seen many gymnasts go through the same stuff, rebecca andrade tore her ACL 3 TIMES! And she is still competing , imagine some gymnasts tear their ACL once and retire , so its a matter of mentality, rebecca bross dislocated her kneecap and injuries just slowed her down but at the end the inconsistency likely came from her mentality and pressure set by herself , plus nile’s injury is linked to the herniated desk, so i believe if it can improve, but time can only tell

Hi Nile I know how you feel, I had an injury and it really effected me, I had 81 days without playing the sport that I love and that is my life and my mental health went down hill massively. I am now back to my prime with only having a few minor injuries. You will get through this. I didn’t think I would and now I’m back and with so much more motivation to work on my body and my sport. You inspire me to create the best version of me. Thank you ❤️❤️

You are a definite inspiration! As a dancer, I am currently going through an injury too and it is definitely so difficult to deal with when your entire life is dedicated to dance. Watching your videos helps me to realise that it will get better and with the right support and rest, I’ll be able to carry on like you do. Keep smiling. Positives are around the corner. 🙂 ☀️

I trained with the Olympic diving team from the age of 3/4. I used to LOVE being active, doing my diving training as well as gymnastics, horse riding, dance... Whatever I could fit in each day I would do. At the age of 13 I caught Mononucleosis (glandular fever), and then that developed into Myalgic Encephalomyelitis. I now struggle to do anything, often including getting up out of bed, and have done for over 20 years. Don't let the depression get to you, get the help you need. Being insular will just make you emotionally ill, and then physically. If you have to adapt what you do to protect yourself, then do it! If you can't compete, you can still provide a wealth of knowledge to the next generation of athletes. And if you can compete... You know there is an army of fans behind you!!! Either way you have all of our support.
