It kills me that the US team went through abuse hours before major events (Worlds, Olympics, Jesolo, etc) and went on to compartmentalize it to win medals for the POS Karolyis. SMH.

And not only that, but knowing that you've just screwed up on INTERNATIONAL TV, and a countless number of people will not only see your mistakes, but even watch them being replayed in slow motion, so even if they don't see what was wrong the first time, they soon will! That's got to be the pits!

1:48 Do you know that Shelby Hilton's fall (the pink Leo girl who fell on her neck after a double pike) was in reality a good thing? Indeed, she made tests to see if something was broken and they found out that she had a tumor. Thanks to this fall, they were able to treat her really fast what is really rare and today, she's a cancer's survivor :) Sorry if there are any faults, I'm french Edit : I found out that the cancer came back and that Shelby couldn't fight it... She unfortunately died in April 2019... RIP.

To have your dream, your passion ripped away from you in a split second, in a blink of an eye, it's more than just heartbreaking. These girls worked hard for years, maybe even decades, and everything was just gone in a heartbeat. It's always baffling to me how people have so much love, so much passion for a particular sport that they throw safety out the window just to do it. My respect for athletes has risen, they're seriously hard-core for doing what they love and not caring about the damage it can do.

As a male gymnast I can confirm this. It is very sad how ONE MOMENT can change your life. It doesn't apply only to gymnastics, but you certainly see it happen most in gymnastics. I personally haven't gotten a very bad injury in my 9 years of experience with the sport, but I've seen it happen. Truly sad.

Their are so dedicated to the sport. Most of them weren't even crying because of the pain. They were crying because their injury stopped them. They can't keep going. And if they could, most of those gymnasts would finish their routine.

Exactly. I watch Makayla's vault all of the time, and you can see how happy she was to land it and be at the Olympics in general. It's sad that she had to give up something that she was so passionate about, because of him. She said that she gave up gymnastics because she wasn't excited about it anymore, and it took a toll on her body. I honestly think it was because she felt that she couldn't just come forward and tell people why she didn't enjoy gymnastics anymore. It also makes you wonder if any of those other girls from different countries are going through the same thing, but can't say anything.

They aren't just crying because they're in physical pain, but after months and even years of pushing themselves and working as hard as they did leading up to that moment and then making even the smallest of mistakes and getting injured or becoming incapable of finishing a routine, it hurts. That's the only word I know how to describe it as. It just hurts, really bad.

As a gymnast, getting your dream ripped away by just a stumble or even one turn less can change your whole life. I’ve felt the pain, the rage and the moments when I knew I could of done better it just breaks your heart. The moment when you fall, above the pain, you feel lost, empty. You think ‘IVE DONE IT SO MANY TIMES WHY NOT NOW?!’ Watching gymnasts fall hurts and I feel their pain. I hope everyone who is a gymnast gets their chance😔💛

I give praise to all these girls who’ve worked their hardest to reach this level🙏🏾.

Garbage yes, obviously. And it’s pretty annoying how some women AND some men think that all of us are the same, and that all males think women are weak. But that’s not true. There are women that are much stronger than men. But on average, men are born stronger than woman. It’s facts. It doesn’t mean that we believe they are weak, we are scientifically and genetically born stronger than them, and you can’t deny that, because it’s true. That just happens to be our species. Think about it. Humans are animals. The human male is genetically stronger than the human female. Our species just happens to have the ability to be extremely smart, and able to talk. There are many, many, many other animal species where the female is genetically born stronger than the male, but again, it just so happens that I am a human, and you are a human. And it is not either of our faults individually that the human male was born stronger than the female. Who knows, maybe in hundreds of thousands of years the human female will be born genetically stronger than the male. That’s just how evolution works.

But, I had goals. These girls had goals and that’s what kept us going. It’s important to never forget your purpose for it. When you lose that purpose or maybe the desire is gone it really makes things more painful. Gymnastics really taught me to work hard and towards my goals. I know how bad it felt for an injury to end my college sports career and that is peanuts compared to the level these awesome ladies are/were at. The pain of the injury with the heartbreak of the failure is definitely a mountain to move past. Just think how many falls and hits these athletes have taken in the gym as well, it definitely takes some amazing toughness and the females have the added stress of certain developmental issues with gymnastics on top of a short and early prime age. Props.

I have nothing but love for these girls. They probably beat themselves up mercilessly over their falls. No matter how hard they stumbled and fell they still did pretty good in my eyes.

I fell so sad about them. Wondering how much pain does that causes. I bet A LOT. But they should be strong( as they are) and try harder because they're better. The fact that they fell once doesn't means that they're not good. They should be strong. For whoever out there who said: that's scary. I'mma quit gymnastics...At first time I saw someone gets really big injures I though to quit gymnastics and contortion. But then I though about it very long and I decided that I should not because that's my dream and I want it to be reality now and forever. So for everyone out there who have failed sometimes: don't quit your dreams whatever it happens. You should work very hard and you should me strong. ❤️ From: a gymnast/contortionist who have tried it itself and knows how it feels.

So story time: It was my first lesson of gymnastics at a new place, but the group had already started, so I was the new kid. We were doing strecthes and trying to get out splits, which I already new how to do, so I did it, and a girl goes, "first day and you're making it look easy," which is not relative to this but whatever. So fast forward to floor or whatever I forget and we're trying to get our flying barrel roll thing idk what it's called. But I was attempting it, and fell on my neck. No coah was watching me, so I just sat there, neck hurting. Luckily, my dad saw this and got the coaches attention, and she came and helped me. Let's just say I stopped going to that place after that.

I imagine their life without gymnastics and it's so heartbreaking. I'm a former dancer, but it turned out that I'm incurably ill with several issues. 8 Years ago I had to quit dancing and I will never be able again to dance. It hurts so much and there is no day on which I don't longing to dance again.

Gymnasts are taught how to fall correctly. She used the right technique to fall, that's why he didn't catch her. It is even more dangerous if he would've catch her.

Elana Mchina The sad tragic story. Perfection. Three gold medals. And one of the tops in the sport. Read her story. Out of all the stories Elana has reached out from beyond for her voice to be heard. We stop and caution all coaches and families to keep vigil on routines and all aspects of your child training... Today rules and laws are in place to protect. Gymnastics in itself is so taxing on the body, and to see these girls go through the pain to get to the Olympics and one thing messes them up is so heartbreaking, as a past gymnast, you work so hard for competition and you beat yourself up if you make the slightest mistake. Years of practices down the drain in seconds, it crushes your heart.

Gymnasts are expected to get up after a fall and keep going like it didn't hurt at all. This proves that nobody is perfect and that there are times when in gymnastics you fall and cant get up like it doesn't hurt. I have been a gymnastics coach for about 5 years now and have seen my fair share of injuries from hyper-extended knees to landing directly on the head. Its a very dangerous sport and this video proves that its not easy!
