It appears time has caught up with Uchimura. To see Japan's 3 top stars missing from competition is a blow to both men's and women's teams. It would be a surprise if Uchimura can maintain his competitive position in 2020 Olympics. He has spent too much time away nursing injuries, and his competition is only getting stronger.

I really hope Kohei can make it to Tokyo Olympic since that was his goal but I guess he has gotten a bit too old... Well he at least ended his winning streak with Olympic gold all around so that's amazing too

Correction - the Japanese women DID qualify in 11th position (top 12 qualify). Also there is NO automatic qualification for being the host country. If the Japanese didn’t qualify here, then they would have missed out.

Japan should use the US qualification system--whoever has the ability to help the US win, will gets in. Kenzo is one of true gymnastics greats today. And he didn't even make it to these games. Sad.
