1976 - at 15 years old I was diagnosed with endometriosis and the doctor said I would never have kids and recommended a hysterectomy. My mom told them that as long as I was willing to handle the symptoms, I’d keep my girlie parts. Fast forward 7 years. I got married and our first son was born just short of 10 months later. Another son 2 years later and another 2 years after that. Healthy pregnancies and healthy babies. I did finally have that hysterectomy. NEVER give up as long as you’re A-symptomatic.

I just had to jump in and tell you that after I had my son I did some damage to myself but this very non invasive PT was amazing as far as fixing what I did as well as making thing better than they have ever been down there. So just keep your head up and do what the doctor recommends and try to stay away from the negative thoughts! I have endometriosis, adenomyosis, and uterine fibroids. My period is 8 days and I fill a super tampon in 30-45 minutes. When you kept saying they removed scar tissues and adhesions, I had wondered if you might possibly have endo. I’ve had 3 surgeries to remove the adhesions that like to glue all my organs together. If you’d like to reach out, I’d be more than welcome to tell you what I know. I do really want to point out that a hysterectomy will cure adeno, it will not cure endo. If you end up doing surgery, please please please look around and get an expert. Expert excision is the only cure for endo.

Pelvic floor physiotherapists are some of the nicest, most gentle and understanding practitioners I have ever met! It can be scary to try at first. But in my experience, there was nothing to be afraid of once I began! The benefits have far outweighed any initial awkwardness!

Pelvic floor therapy is amazing, I did it 7 years ago. I had terrible wetting issues and went to the dr expecting to have pelvic prolapse repair, (I had a hysterectomy when I was 25 and was told I would most like need surgery in the future.) My urologist said let’s try therapy and after 2 weeks I no longer needed to wear pads/liners during the day. It took 6-8 weeks before I was able to quit wearing them at night. 100% best therapy as far as improving my issue. The initial visits to therapy will be a little awkward just due to the way they test your muscles (basically like a cardiac monitor but attached down stairs. Without a doubt it is completely worth the time and effort, I learned so much.

Most surgeons do not know what endometriosis looks like - it’s not the lining of their uterus. Most experts do not believe adenomyosis and Endo are the same disease tissue as Endo is not the lining of the uterus. Hysterectomies do nottrest Endo, they treat adenomyosis because Endo is by definition is found outside the uterus. And it’s really important that this is explained. And without a biopsy, it’s hard to know if what they saw was Endo or adenomyosis.... and getting a hysterectomy for Endo doesn’t make sense unless it’s for other issues (adenomyosis, PCOS, heavy bleeding, tumors, etc.)

Maggie i don’t agree with the dr saying if it doesn’t happen in 6 months you need to go back. Plus if she said it would be treated with birth control how would you even get pregnant then. I was told after my first child that i probably would never have another one. Well 6 years later i had a son and 2 1/2 years after that i had another daughter. My nefew and his wife were told they would never be able to have kids i told them doctors don’t know everything. After 10 years they got pregnant and ended up having 3 kids all together. Another reason i really don’t like drs is everytime you go for one thing it’s seems like you end up having to go back for something else. Just really weird how one thing gets fixed and another pops up.

Similar story. I was on the progesterone contraceptive pill for years. Only off it for a small amount of time. I wasn’t diagnosed with endo and adeno until I had completed my family 2 boys later and got sterilised. I didn’t want to use hormonal birth control anymore because of my age and being a smoker. Then the symptoms reared their ugly head eventually leading to a diagnosis. Unbeknown to me I too had preserved my fertility. Definately use hormonal birth control until you are ready to start a family. This stops the progression of the diseases.
@user-hy2qo6lj2q11 ай бұрын
THE pill... as in the contraceptive pill. It regulates hormones and because this condition thrives on excess estrogen (like most abnormal growths in the female reproductive system) the pill probably prevented the condition from advancing to a point that it affected their fertility. Coming off the pill, which let them get pregnant also theoretically let the disease, which had been dormant all that time to start taking over.... But traditionally, this disease was associated with women over 35, already with multiple children and it was thought age and the higher amount of children also contributed to the progression of this condition. This assumption has been challenged by the growing number of younger women without any children being diagnosed in recent years. Now they think it is probably something you are born with that just gets worse over time.

I had endometriosis since I was 16 yrs old. I was never able to get pregnant from it. But I’ve learned that some of us are affected by the endometriosis more than others. I was given birth control to help reduce the lesions. It helped for a while, but as I got older, it began to fail. My periods got worse--in my late 30s, I began having fibroids, cysts in my ovaries, excessive bleeding etc. The pain was severe. So I encouraged my GYN to recommend surgery. She did. She didn’t really know bad my uterus really was just from the tests. She was in the surgery with my surgeon. They were horrified to see I had adenomosis. She said I was very close to bleeding out. I had cancerous cells in ovaries and uterus. So I had a complete hysterectomy. It felt better after years of painful periods. But I will say the sooner you get it diagnosed, the better!!! And of course, I’d had years of endometriosis that was basically unchecked bc doctors really didn’t know what to do. So you are fortunate, and Gynecology knows more about this autoimmune disease. So begin watching what foods et al your body is reacting to. Try to reduce it as much as you can. Get your immune system to calm down. That can alleviate the andenomosis. Keep us posted on how you are doing.

It’s a suuuuper common and pervasive myth that a hysterectomy cures Endo. There’s lots of steps that can be taken before reaching that point. So don’t panic that you’re going to have to get a hysterectomy one day because for many women with Endo they never end up getting one. Kind correction - endometriosis is NOT the lining of the uterus. Endometriosis is an abnormal tissue and it’s not from the uterus. Adenomyosis is when the lining of the uterus grows into the muscular wall of the uterus. Most GYNs are not skilled or knowledgeable enough, so I’m not surprised she didn’t have the right definition. Please check out “Endo girls blog”, “Endo what”, etc. It’s really important that the right information is shared on these platforms.

I have both endo and adeno ( currently recovering from my 2nd lap for excision of the endo as I type!). I highly recommend the subreddits r/endo and r/endometriosis , even if it is only adenomyosis that you’ve been diagnosed with - they have a lot of good information and most importantly an amazing Community of girls who are all going through the same thing . It has truly been my lifeline ! There is also r/adenomyosis but I don’t think it is as active as the other 2 subreddits. Also, Nancy’s Nook on Facebook is a good resource for reading materials/information, but they don’t really encourage a lot of discussion/dialogue between members and it’s a bit “culty” so just be aware of that! Wishing you the best of luck with your endo/adeno journey :) for me being diagnosed was actually a positive , as I knew something wasn’t right with my body and so confirming it meant it wasn’t all in my head lol. I didnt get a period until 16 then from 18-19 (a year and a half) it didn't come until I started birth control. Now its like clock work. But since then the main medicine to treat it decided to make my stomach hate me. Then around last year I was talking to my doctor and she suspects Endo may also play a role with my pain and issues at well. With PCOS, its normally found due to infertility. Mine was found due to pain, lack of period, and blood tests.

I've never met anyone before with this condition. I had pain after my C-section in 1984, pain started after I stopped nursing. Birth control helped. I had a vaginal birth in 1987 after that birth the pain was intense for 10 months...My Dr suspected I had it but it wasn't confirmed till I had my hysterectomy. My Dr said it was caused by my C-section.

Lucky break.....this happens a lot with gastric neuroendocrine cancer, my diagnosis, all in my stomach. I also have endo and after a LONG while found the right doc... a good gynecologist is worth their weight in gold. BTW I found your site looking for people who have had a total gastrectomy, my likely treatment if no mets are found. If you have run across anyone with that id I'd love to know.

Adenomyosis was never detected on my transvaginal ultrasound or any other testing and imaging but was found once I had my hysterectomy for endo and poly cystic. So glad your not in pain! That is a blessing.

Hi Maggie. I use Perifit to strengthen my Pelvic floor. I like it more than other kegel Systems because you can train with an App on your Handy and see, how good your muscles are. I buy it on Amazon. Greetings from Germany. Melanie

Didn't you have a transvaginal ultrasound a couple years ago? I remember because it was the first time I had heard of transvaginal ultrasound. I would think if the adenomyosis wasn't new, they'd have seen it then?

Adenomyosis is a progressive disease and not always detected by imaging. I had two transvaginal ultrasounds 18 months apart and the Adeno was found the second time.

I was riddled with endo. I couldn’t conceive and ended up with a full hysterectomy, which made a world of difference in my life. But, I know you’ll be just fine!

My ultrasound showed the sign of adenomyosis but my doctor wanted me to do MRI with contrast to confirm the diagnosis. Did your MRI involve contrast?
