Hi Maggie. I have just watched your video endorsing non-drainable pouches. I don’t think you mentioned who manufactured these. I am 80 years old and this might solve my problem. I had a very lengthy surgical procedure to remove scar tissue, large paristomal hernia, scar tissue, bowel and rectum. I had an iliostomy done for UC five years ago and I never had a problem fitting a two piece drainable system and was able to get 10 to 12 days from an appliance change. Now my body does a cave in below the stoma, causing two creases above and below the stoma. I am trying everything on the market. The Ostomy nurses I am working with say it is going to be trial and error because they don’t know how to help me. Please dear, do you have any suggestions.

Why as a nurse to I always walk into a room with anyone who has an ileostomy bag and I’m sorry but I think there’s spillage and there fine. Someone should invent a deodorant that works. Bc the patient can’t smell it but everyone around can . I remember even sitting on the subway and knowing that the have one on

There IS ostomy deodorant that works. Some companies that offer this are Na'Scent, Hollister's M9 drops, Convatec's Esenta Lubricating Deodorizer and many more. It isn't often times available in the hospital or nursing doesn't know about it to order for the patient. I educated my co-workers on many accessory items for ostomies because nursing school doesn't cover it. Please remember, when a person is in the hospital, they may not be able to care for their ostomy the way someone at home can. It takes time to learn how to keep it clean and quite a bit of dexterity that one hospitalized may not currently have. It's the nurse's job to help a patient with the care of their stoma until the point they are capable of fully caring for it on their own.

I’m 13 weeks since ileostomy surgery. Didn’t have much instruction. Developed a hole the size of a quarter next to my Stoma. And very painful. Found a wound care nurse once. I’ve been using the silver felt material. Topped with a matching piece of skin barrier. The broken skin is finally down to dime size. I change everything every 2 days. Great channel. Thank you.

Question: how do you wear these dresses as the pouch begins to fill? Do you have to empty it really often?

I use the same type but hollister brand. It is the best. One piece is so much easier. And seldom leaks, but stay ahead of it.

Maggie you are doing a wonderful service to all Ostomy patients. When I 1st became an Ostomy patient I had very few resources. Being a nurse myself, I was easily able to learn just about everything. Including diet. Keep it up Maggie. You are encouraging. 💗

It would be nice if these companies that produce the ostomy supplies or the supplier of ostomy products would have a catalog to see the products available.

Why do people like to see something so horrible. The way someone loves to see a horrible car crash with dead people. You literally ask what happened? People will say nothing just a bumper bender and leave but boi do the stay if there are dead people with lost limb’s just came to the conclusion humans are evil.

What a bizarre comment. I'm a nurse trying to educate about ostomy care. If you don't want to see this, simply move along. There are patients given little education about their stomas who DO want to see this. Just because it doesn't cater to you doesn't mean the content doesn't cater to others.

I cannot use a filter because I have an ileostomy. Also I use a one piece pouch. I would get too much leaking around flange. Ahh, just heard that part. I’ve been in that position. It’s terrible. But a one piece is very comfortable. And it stays for 3-4 days. Very comfortable. I prefer the Hollister also.
