Glad she's out. She never should have gone to prison, having served time for two decades with her mom. She should have been given clemency and let out. Deedee got what she deserved, since she probably would have eventually killed Gypsy, and she should have been behind bars for a litany of crimes.

Agreed! Curious to what your thoughts about Nick are. No right or wrong answers and no judgement. I am confused as to how I feel.

@JustAnna13 Nick is a young man with a lot of mental issues. He is severely mentally deficit, and doesn't think rationally because of his handicap. His mother told detectives she tried to watch him carefully. Doctors indicated he will always be stuck at a 15-16 year mentality. He also had never been on his own, and I'm sure he's leaning heavily on the spectrum as someone who won't ever leave home and would need a guardian throughout his life. Unfortunately, he wasn't watched close enough. I get his mom and step-dad were probably too busy trying to make ends meet. He sat in a fast food restaurant for 9 hrs, touching himself in public while watching porn. He doesn't come across as a person with the cognitive ability to know that isn't something he should be doing. Legally, I think the state got it right. It was premeditated murder; however, Nick also had extenuating circumstances that should have gotten him in a state mental facility. Not prison.

I love this and think it is spot on! He needed/needs professional help. Im not even sure he realizes the gravity of what he has done. That is sad. Do you think Gypsy was aware of his disability and preyed on it?

I don't think Gypsy knew he was limited, or if she would have noticed/understood. She barely understood her own situation. Their meeting was a convergence of bad circumstances. It was just by chance those two became involved, and it was a storm. If she manipulated him and she was the master manipulator, then why couldn't she manipulate that 30 something dude she met at the convention? Why hadn't she manipulated the neighbors, particularly the neighbor she was friends with? People give her way too much credit. Nick and Gypsy coming together was just an awful combination of poverty, ignorance, and neglect.

I agree. I just rewatched The Act. And I know some of it is dramatized but to me it seems like they were both very child-like in their mentality. I.e. mailing the murder weapon to themselves instead of just tossing it in a trash can somewhere where it wdv never been found. I think ppl give her too much credit too. I think both were very caught up in this twisted Disney-esq fantasy of the prince rescuing the princess from her evil mother. The fact that they hadn’t planned much farther than the act itself, & were kind of just doing spur of the moment things like mailing the weapon, it just seemed like it was two teenagers trying to get away w a crime. I feel for both of them honestly. I think he hasn’t even realized the gravity of what he did. I feel for him and his mother. I think he definitely should’ve been put into a mental facility instead of prison. Gypsy I didn’t agree w her going to prison. She’d served enough time in prison w her demented mother. I mean Dee dee’s own family wasn’t bothered by her murder. That pretty much sums up what they felt about her. She was an awful, very sick woman and Gypsy would have eventually been killed had she not done what she did. I’d read that Gypsy had tried to escape before and I honestly believe she felt that the ONLY way she would EVER be free from her mother’s prison was if her mom was dead. I would imagine anyone else who went through the tortuous nightmare that Gypsy did would’ve done the exact same to get away. I really hope she gets the therapy she needs to get through all her mother has done. I hope she is able to do this before having a child of her own. Because having a child of her own will DEF bring back memories from her own childhood. And she deserves to be happy and at peace. I pray that this happens for her.
