We traveled to the middle of nowhere to find WAE REBO village

Wae Rebo is something special in every way. Not everyone knows the small remote village in the mountainous hinterland of the Indonesian island of Flores. It was a real challenge to get there but we were rewarded with the most special travel experience we ever had.

In west Java and Banten any similar traditional village like waerebo...naga village in Tasikmalaya and Badui in Banten, but in Baduy village you are not allowed to use modern equipment including recording or photographing everything in the village.

As far as I know, usually werebo people ask for offerings such as live chickens for a welcoming ritual, and then they slaughter it and see the internal organs of the chicken, and if they think everything is good then you are allowed to stay and do activities there

Not anymore. I went there 2 years ago. Now every visitors is welcomed. If you used tour the price you pay is already included for staying 1 night in wae rebo. It is also an income for the village to welcome visitor

I dont think so at this time,,, cause if we can see in this video there were a lot of guys in the boarder using bike who block the street to guide the tourist to be welcoming in the village,, i think the guys is the guarantess for tourist that everything going well,, but ya i've heard the story about the slaughter chicken before ,if im not mistaken i saw it in the tv show called my trip my adventure,, important thing is the culture there is awesome

For the education, all the kids in the Waerebo stay at "dormitory" in the village that has a school. They will come back to the Waerebo in the weekend. Their effort is really inspiring for us who has access to many things very easy.

I used to live in Labuan Bajo, about 3 years. And visited Wae Rebo is one of the most memorable things during lived in Flores, Nusa Tenggara Timur. Of course, including Komodo Island in Labuan Bajo and Kelimutu in Ende.
