@@StuWithAView Thanks Stu - I will along with finally breaking my Caernarfon duck! But TBH had a great flying year in 2019 in the gyro, and was fortunate to fly on Christmas day and New Years Eve. How are you getting along with your new rotors - that last landing looked quite slow but with lots of control authority?

You can box off Llanbedr and Caernarfon in one trip 😊. New rotors are great; much less vibration. I still haven’t noticed any landing difference though, due to the extra momentum; that was a steep approach to avoid the turbulent dunes with at least 60mph all the way to the flare, so the control authority was (I think) more due to maintaining speed. Glad to hear you’ve been flying so much. I’m hoping to squeeze in a flight this week.

Jason R Wilkinson Lesson was cancelled as I fly from Barton airport, with Flight Academy. And Barton was closed today for fixed wing because the runways were too soft.

They’re fantastic in crosswind conditions; we can fly when fixed wings wouldn’t even think of it. In a strong wind we land so slowly it can be done across the runway.

Nice. I noticed that some of your audio doesn't quite match up with the video, though - especially on landing and taxing as your rotors come to a stop. The audio you've used at the end of your (near)-vertical descent actually sounds more like a touch-down (the rotors sound loaded but decaying as you dip the nose) and it sounds as if you've used audio from S-turns during a straight descent, too. :D A flight to Port Meirion is on my wish-list. I like the old TV series, "The Prisoner" and I have all the episodes on DVD. Soon after we met, my wife (not a British national) decided to watch them all and I told her that one day, we'd have to visit "the village". I visited it many years ago but it would be nice to see it from the air, this time.

StuWithAView - Oooh. That's surprising. For some reason, it did not sound that way to me. I wonder if it's the turbulence/gusts which are altering the sounds of the rotors. The audio from 13mins onwards almost certainly doesn't match up, though. You perform a visual cut (to slightly later in the taxi) without a corresponding audio cut and the audio of your rotors slowing can be heard to continue whilst the view from the 360 cam is showing the rotors almost at a stop. Or am I hearing something other than the rotors going "swish swish swish" just after your last radio communication?

There’s an error on the very final scene (rotor stop and runway exit) when I cut the video of the long runway 33 taxi but forgot to do likewise with the audio track; but everything prior, including approach and landing, is perfectly in sync. Doing this with multiple cameras from multiple manufacturers is one of the editing tasks that takes the most time. On take off I sync to brakes off, on landing to nose wheel touchdown, and in flight to specific manoeuvres or ground feature passings.

Yes I’d wondered if the significant thermal updrafts from the dunes and their effect on the rotors are what you’re referring to. You’ll have heard the FISO’s warning and my very late IDP and steep approach as (largely effective) attempts to minimise the turbulence, but it was still disrupting the air flow which is probably what you’re hearing.

@@StuWithAView thanks mate I'll look it up. I teach stem and we make flite test foam board gliders but we use Raspberry pi zero computers to power the rudder and elevators. I can also fit a tiny camera to the pi and you can buy GPS receivers cheap. If we could grab a nice visual with data it'd be fantastic. Ta again.
