Another first-class video from this guy. Even as a qualified Gyronaut, I still paused and took part in this video to check my memory and thinking whilst not sitting in the aircraft

The only problem I have with a gyro, is I can’t really afford one, but let me tell you, if I had the money I’d have one for sure. I love these aircrafts

Gyros are regarded as unsafe because they are sold as a 'Sports' vehicle. They are no such thing. They should be marketted as the ever-faithful VW Bug, a low-frills conveyance (with spectacular views), wide-weather capable, made safe by design. Thrill-attention-seekers should be firmly re-directed to the STOL crowd. Crashes will plummet (statistically) and sales may take off. Bureaucrats and those who think like them will not be any part of the eventual solution. As I mentioned in previous videos, aiming the design and ad campaigns at women (wives, etc) will refocus the industry in the right direction.

I'd advise adding a djsclaimer somewhere that this isn't instructional material but more of a video suggestion, in the event that some people decide to take you to court on this To clarify I'm not saying that the content is bad, but rather that some people might see this as pure instruction and hold you responsible if things go wrong

Hey - I hear you but I'm relaxed tbh after all who (without seeking further clarity via the telephone, email, face to face, a local instructor) really has the expectation that they can follow a 9 min KZbin film (with all the limitations of the ability to cover all nuanced items and understand the base level of the viewer) and just have a go? I guess those that do likely kill themselves and then it becomes less of a legal matter because who knows what happened? Put simply if you need to be told then what I write here likely makes no difference.

Buenos días mi amigo. Por supuesto que estoy bromeando, me refiero a Hola amigo. Como siempre les digo a mis alumnos, ¡es mejor tener suerte que ser bueno!

It's so bizarre to me that gyrocopters are not more popular. I just don't get it.

I think your second sentence partially accounts for the reason they’re not more popular... “I just don’t get it”. Some people just... don’t get it. They think it’s a tiny machine so it’s going to be flimsy, susceptible to winds and turbulence, and inherently unsafe (all untrue, of course). They have had a poor safety record in the past and this is a reputation which has been hard to shake off. They’re not a particularly quick or practical means of transport - most gyros have very little in the way of luggage capacity, so loading up for a weekend away is not their ideal scenario... unless you are adept at travelling light.. VERY light ! Finally, compared to microlights, (other than for hangarage fees), they tend to be quite expensive in terms of running-costs and, depending upon the model, initial outlay. A flying-tablecloth (weight-shift microlight) tends to be a lot cheaper to purchase whereas a decent three-axis microlight such as the Eurostar seems to be comparable. In the UK, the rules which govern our maintenance schedule are very different between a gyro and a microlight and even in situations where we are using exactly the same engines (the 91x series Rotax), we have to replace all of our rubber components every five years whereas a microlight owner does not - he only has to replace such components when their condition necessitates it. I’m sure that there are other reasons but these are a few that I’ve noted since taking up flying a gyro. They are widely misunderstood aircraft, often even amongst those who fly them. They are certainly an oddity in the world of aviation, neither aeroplane nor helicopter and with its own little quirks and capabilities. Even if I could wind back time, I would not change my decision to fly a gyro.

Hi - fundamentally people are generally afraid of them and if you watch the History of the Gyroplane series of films in some cases you find little there to set aside that fear!

I can still tell when the disc is ready to fly, by the noise!
@gyrocopterflyingclub61483 жыл бұрын
Of course you can but many can't and on the basis a noise is subjective its unlikely to be a well understood metric.
