For the upper ball joints: I do not recommend moving them outboard the as I did in the video. The reason: moving the lower balljoint inboard 1/4" is plenty to compensate for any camber difference between the Blazer and Vega spindles. Moving the top balljoint outboard then requires full deflection of the camber/caster adjusters on the lower control arm to prevent positive camber. The solution: Install the upper balljoints centered in the widened hole of the upper control arm. I still recommend swapping the upper control arms to their opposite sides for caster gain. doing so adds stability at speed.
@darthvega63584 жыл бұрын
With the swapping of the upper control arms, does it also keep the tire from hitting the rear fender well as much? I just swapped the fronts on mine today, I just got them installed and still have work to do, haven’t switched mine yet, noticed the rear of the tire rubs but the front is fine.
@BurnoutsAndRotorblades4 жыл бұрын
@@darthvega6358 I had to put some smaller tires on my front to keep it from hitting. I would think the tire would be a smidge closer when swapping the uppers because it moves the upper balljoint aft resulting in the caster gain. But we’re taking a quarter in or so. You’ll likely have to change tire size to make more room.

We used Bob Gumm's sleeves to do the S10 conversion and couldn't be more please with the results. In doing it this way (the easy way) and using off center a-arm bushing, we were able to get a little extra negative camber. As we' were planning on using the car hard on the street with a bit of auto crossing later on, the additional camber was very welcome. Something to consider when planning your S10 conversion. In our case the easy way was the best way. The S10 rear axles conversion is equally as easy if you have a 7.5" rear in your car, a simple substitution using stock parts. Luck ! ! !

I test fitted a first gen camaro spindle with chevelle steering arms on my 75 monza. used some cone inserts for the small h- body balljoints. I did this just for an interfernce and camber check, had no interference issues and camber was roughly the same even a bit more negative as stock. I will try to fit a screw in lower ball joint. I want to do a JL8 ( Basically Corvette C3 11.75" discs )conversion like some rare camaros could have been ordered with. The biggest challenge is to find a JL8 Caliper bracket, these are really rare and very expensive and are only available as repro parts. I love Vegas and monzas because you can get something special for cheap and can make a real competitor out of it. These cars are lightweight and have more potential than a Camaro when well prepared.

@@mrwallaby11966 The rear axle has to be 2wd. The physical axle shafts are longer pushing the wheel mounting surface out in the Vega. The front. . . I'll be honest, I'm not sure if it matters. I can't honestly say if the fronts have a physical difference, other than; the 2wd spindles have a plug where the driveshaft for a 4wd would pass through, but the hub and bearing still have the holes. To preserve the bearing you would need to plug the hole in the spindle to keep water/dirt out. So for simplicity, I would say go for the 2wd first.
