I don´t know how much time you got to play with it, I'm an MG4E gunner, and you can actually remove the barrel with the bolt forward. Personally i love the gun, i had to put it through a lot of abuse and it performed flawlessly, dead accurate in full auto (an ACOG NSN helped) and reliable as hell. Fell down a hill during an assault, dropped with safety off "lone survivor" style and ammo on the tray and didn´t misfire, later it kept shooting without zeroing issues, with the reciever full of dirt and stuff. You could actually see all the crap thrown off the openings in the gun with every shot. My favourite gun ever, even if i felt wrong when i had to change my MG3 for it

H&K first and foremost produces for the german military, and not long ago, the german miltary was forbidden to take action outsiede of europe. So, the need for a gun, relyable in the temperatures of the middle east, was just not given. The issues were adressed and I think are taken care of.
@geist413345 жыл бұрын
@@bingbengbangbangbingbung4903 A G36 with all accesoires costs the german army something about 600 Euros in total. That's a pretty average pricetac i would guess. No german soldier in afghanistan ever seriously complained about the G36 being "unreliable". The G36 has a very good reputation amongst german soldiers in general. The whole G36 afair that led to the decision to replace it until 2025 was fabricated by certain politicians and media outlets to blame H&K.

I think the semi auto feature is really important as an element of surprise, imagine if you will you come up against someone just shooting semi auto, then you don't really know what you're up against, you might try a simple half squad flanking move and then all of a sudden a full powered MG opens up with your forces split and you're totally pinned down - not a good day.

Cool Machine gun, I like the newer features too, I think a carrying handle integrated into the optic on a LMG or MMG would be very useful in assaulting and 3-5 second rushes.

@TruNorthBandito8 жыл бұрын
We use the C9, a Canadian M249 variant in the Canadian forces as the machine gun for the gunner of each section. It differentiates from the M249 because it does have a side folding stock in a style of the traditional AR-15 retractable stock (if that is what it is called).

They're long, heavy, unreliable, and have terrible felt recoil. The prices turn their products from sad to comical. When H&K can replicate the performance of a $400 bottom-of-the-barrel AR15, I'll start to pay attention to them. The Germans have come up with some real winners in the industry. Before WW2, they came up with more than 50% of the good shit. The rest of the world combined struggled to come up with less than what the Germans did. But since WW2, maybe 3 guns? H&K had that MP5, and it sure is a nice SMG. But other than that the company is an embarrassment.

Re: wanting a semi-auto setting for zeroing, if you're going to be using it on full auto, you really should zero it on full auto using the mean point of impact for the burst. Because the first round of the burst isn't necessarily going to be at the MPI. On the contrary, your point of aim is going to wander slightly in a pattern under recoil on full auto, so you want your reticle to indicate the centre of the final burst pattern, not the first round, which may be off centre of the final pattern. I've zeroed lots of MGs, and it's always done that way.
@VickersTacticalLAV6 жыл бұрын
I disagree- and I’ve zeroed and carried MG’s in combat so I’m not a babe in the woods on this
@HamSandwich2776 жыл бұрын
No doubt my combat credentials don't compare to yours (only one tour in A-stan, Canadian army/infantry, +20 years of training troops on the range), but consider this - when you zero a rifle, you fire a grouping of several rounds, and then you zero using the MPI, right? Same applies for MGs. You're not as concerned with the first round as you are with where the centre of the grouping is, since what you're trying to do is centre the burst pattern over your point of aim, right? If your first round in an MG burst is consistently biased to one side of the final pattern, you'd want to zero that out and use the centre of the pattern to aim with in order to maximize your probability of hit.

Great weapon Larry. I always loved to fire the HK's. I do not like the fact of not being able to put the weapon on safe unless bolt is to the rear. Earlier HK's have the capability as you know of being able to be put on safe regardless. This problem is like the M-16 not being able to be put on safe unless it was cocked. I always insisted that our troops, upon drawing their M-4's or M-16's to immediately cock,clear, and put the weapon on safe. Walking around with a weapon on fire or semi-automatic is not a safe practice and can lead to an AD or worse. As to this MG, IT's a step back in my view and is disregarding one of the time proven assets on the HK's of earlier times. Next as to zeroing, your right on the money,as the MG should have semi-auto capability for a better zero. Perhaps the gunners place one round at a time on a belt and zero that way. Great job as always, Larry.

specifically for the m249 you don't have to "use a burst" to zero your optic even though it is a full auto weapon only. Why not? you just open the feed tray cover, place a single round on the feed tray. close feed tray cover. charge the weapon if not already charged. pull trigger. the bolt goes home chambers the single round from the feed tray and fires one time. then just repeat the process until your are zeroed. -.-/ when given a belt of disintegrating link 5.56 you just de link and place a single round "no links" on the feed tray.
@RUBIZEN8 жыл бұрын
I doubt if any current users of the M249 are going to switch to this. The M249 tends to make a beaten zone that is vertical rather than horizontal. Thats due to the shape of the barrel yoke. Aside from that the M249 is still the SAW by which others are judged. The South African Vektor ss-77 mini is a great SAW. I hardly ever hear anyone talk about that one. Maybe Vickers could get one of those.
