@@mr_demeanor6008 TBH its more of an issue of practicality. Its a lot more practical to modify existing guns to fire reliably in subsonic, than it is to procure an entirely new gun, just for this single feature. You could make this sophisticated gas bleed system that probably won't fit a decent number of guns in your current armory, requiring you to buy entire, new stocks. @russetwolf135 жыл бұрын
@@dieterhrabak4947 Are we talking about the Joint Strike Fighter? Because for one, Kelly Johnson has been dead for decades. For two if you're talking about Lockheed they haven't dragged anything out, that's not how the F35 got so expensive or took so long. The F35 started as a flawed, impossible project to replace most Fighter and Attack aircraft in the arsenal with a single plane. This is basically an impossible task right out of the gate, but they also wanted it for every branch (and yes, the navy has held the project up for years by requiring twin engines). This means the same plane has to be capable of catapult launch and VTOL and STOL under load, as well as capable of carrying every weapon in the arsenal, and they asked that it be stealth capable (so no external weapon racks). And it had to be small, cheap, and use advanced radar and entirely new electronic cockpit control systems. So it had to be Carrier launch capable, an air dominance fighter, a light bomber, a ground support jet, a jump jet, and it still had to supercruise and have high altitude performance along with low altitude performance. Lockheed is literally the only company with experience building stealth fighters, since they built the F-117A Nighthawk and the F-22 Raptor, so they're defacto the only company that could do it. Oh, did I mention the other requirments? Like Concurrent Production? They told Lockheed to start building the plane as soon as they had a working prototype. I huge chunk of the cost has gone into making unfinished planes and then updating them over and over while the development cycle is still ongoing. So if we're talking about Lockheed dragging their feet, remember, this was an impossible plane mashing multiple contradictory requirements together that the Pentagon wanted built before it had even finished test flights. Given that the impossible plane is currently flying Lockheed should probably get a fucking medal for making that pile of bullshit even half functional.

H&K make nice weapons. The 416 and 417 really allow the AR-15 and AR-10 platforms to be modern, adaptable weapons. The MP5 is nearly mythical. The USP is about as good as one needs a pistol to be with the MK23 lending itself to the crazy big pistol group. You can quite comfortably equip a squad with H&K weapons and not feel like anything is missing. 417s for the DMR and SAW (configured appropriately), 416 for the riflemen, USP on the hips and that's a squad sorted. I first saw this gun in the "Project I.G.I. 2" game. Took a lot of research for me to find out, that it wasn't made up. Great video

The suppressor setting on the sights is surprisingly simply done, but really ingenious - nice!

I recall magazines running articles announcing the new "replacement for MP5" the new gun for the 21st century ... And then nothing else, so nice to see the history and follow-up, not that there was much of a follow up aside from the UMP.

Thank you Ian, I learned something new today about managing gas pressures. I can't think of any other firearm that vents into a reservoir that outgases behind the bullet.

Someone should not only put the SMG1 in a retro-futuristic game, but change the range knob into a 30-round spinning ammo counter.

I never realized these were made at the US Navy's request. I always thought they were some weird design HK threw together to try and iterate on the MP5.

I always liked SMGs with forward pistol grips, in JTF2 we used so many different SMGs, we even used outdated models once or twice in training which i enjoyed

Love how in the close up shot, the fire select says "0" for safe, "1" for single shot, "3" for 3-round burst, and then "30" for the mag-dump button!
