This situation really reveals peoples insecurities and how 4c hair isn’t accepted like other textures. The crazy part is black people are the only one criticizing black hair to this level 🤦🏽‍♀️

Y'all better speak that truth!! I had a friend the other day say that the hair typing system is divisive. Well, if your hair type isn't being erased, from the very community that's supposed to be celebrating and representing it, I suppose I would also see no reason to stress hair typing, too. This case reminds me of that - acknowledging different hair types matters. That first tweet you read says it all. We 4C folks might have to restart a whole new movement of our own.

It just goes to show the level of self-hate black people have engrained in ourselves as a result of the brainwashed ideas we've been fed about what's beautiful. It's really sad 😕 Edit: I never lay my edges. I tried to learn, but I could never figure it out and guess what? My 4c hair still looks cute. I don't slick back my hair every time I put it in a ponytail and guess what? My hair still looks good, so folks really need to shut up about combing her hair back and all that mess. I never use gel in my hair since going natural and I'm glad cause I don't have to worry about flakes or stiffness 🤷🏽‍♀️ if you use gel, do you, but I find that my 4c hair still looks good with out it and I don't need it to look "presentable."

Literally hers looked worse than both of y'alls. They styled the other kids hair messy in an aesthetically pleasing manner but not hers. That's the main problem I had with it, that and they didn't give her the same attention with her hair as they did with the other kids.

My opinion is that her hair actually looked the BEST out of the other girl's hair. She had a ponytail the ONLY thing that was messy was her baby hairs in the front and back, which will be small and coiled bc of the texture. The other kids literally had hair all over their face, randomly out of place, and people are trying to attribute that to a "cute messy bun" . Not at all, we need to look at those pictures again. lol. The "messy" state of 4c hair is just not aesthetically pleasing to black folks. Coiled baby hair in the back that is short and doesn't making a ponytail is referred to as a "kitchen and beady beads" I think this campaign was a mirror to us to even examine how we look at 4c texture, even the terms we use for short 4c texture WAY before the campaign (ie nappy beady beads, etc) which don't promote positive self-imagery at all. Young girls are looking at straight blonde hair on TV and also being told they have naps and beads by their own folks, then we wonder why they have esteem issues and want to ONLY blame "eurocentric features" No ma'am, our words hurt too. Also, Black women's hair means so much to them, so We carried ALL that into this campaign. To the point that people started to judge motherhood based on the girl's hair, not if she is smart, happy, confident, clothed, fed, but if her edges were laid. Chiiiiillle lol And sadly instead of acknowledging this, some people are searching for any other reason to want to be right. First, it was "oh its messy," then its "oh no its not messy, but you can tell there's breakage" lol I can't.

@@ladieesc0 i believe that you believe that, and for some folks that may be true, but not for me. If alma made her 4c hair look appealing in the messy look H&M could do the same but didn't. I also believe that so many people are desperate to be accepted they'll see, believe, and take just anything (ie "My opinion is that her hair looked the BEST....")

It differs from yours hence the term "my opinion". But I believe that you believe that and are desperately trying to psychoanalyze me to continue your stance. it's okay girl, it's just your opinion. At first, I was very upset until I saw that all of the kids had messy hair. I don’t hate my hair, but sometimes I see how they mistreat us and our hair. Even makeup. I always get a little sensitive if it isn’t fine right
