H. Newman Marsh Trail and Memorial Loop at Chester Blandford State Forest

Friday Flash Hike at H. Newman Marsh Trail and Memorial Loop in the Chester Blandford State Forest. A 2.1 mile spoon loop with a total of 834 feet of elevation gain from the Sanderson Brook Falls Parking Lot located on Route 20 across from Bannish Lumber. This classic spoon loop starts on the main trail, Sanderson Brook Falls, take the first trail on the left with granite stone steps leading you on a climb through hemlock and native rock. The views start to open up to the Westfield River Valley as you climb and are amazing when the leaves drop. At the creek, the trail crosses and continues on to the Memorial Trail Signage post which is the spoon. Traversing thru chunks of white quartz and a hemlock forest, you arrive at the first of three vistas. Vista #1 looks West into the Westfield River Valley, Round Top Hill, Abbott Hill and Gobble Mountain in Chester. Vista #2 and #3 are looking East towards Huntington and Mount Tom can clearly be seen as the furthest mountain. The loop ends at the intersection with Observation Hill Road, signage guides you back down the mountain to Sanderson Brook Falls where you complete the spoon loop and again cross the creek and make your way back down. Trail blazed blue and read the signage along the way.
