If the Clippers offered Paul George, the same deal or close to what they gave Kawhi 3 years and 150 million, but the Sixers are going give him 4-years at over 200 million, so it's not like if he resigns with the Clippers, he only losing a few million since it's been reported the Sixers, or the Magic can give him the max which is 4-years over 200 million. Every year come playoffs Kawhi is injured since he's been a Clipper so not good odds in that changing unless you had the roster depth to play Kawhi limited mins and less games all season and hope you get a decent seeding in the playoffs. Paul George is looking at this as his last big contract since he will be 38 years old after 4 more seasons.

There are also other reasons why people much prefer being in their hometown‘s… Ranging from the culture, to the scenery, to the weather and so forth. Yeah I don’t blame Paul for taking it if another team is dumb enough to guarantee him an extra $50 million for a fourth year in which he probably won’t be good enough to even be a starter. I would take a hometown discount of maybe 20 million or 30 million… But 50 million is a lot to get for a fourth extra year in which you’ll likely only be playing 10 minutes a game.

Also it often turns out to be a bad idea to sign a 34-year-old guy to a super max contract for four years. There is a super high risk that he either gets injured or his speed declines or his level of play drops off significantly… Especially in the third or fourth year of it. This is especially true for guards because speed is such a key ingredient at that position. if I were the clippers, I probably would have done the same thing. Guys who are 35, 36 and 37 are far more likely to get injured, and far less likely to properly recover from an injury.
