For some reason I prefer this set-up over the newer underground platforms. It's because of the availability of cross-platform interchange.

But the cross-platform transfer isn't perfect, sometimes you need to go to another platform or wait more than 6 minutes for the next train

Plus MTR needs to extend the West Rail Line and the East Rail Line, there’s no way they can extend it from the old platforms.

Well the East Rail Line is still serving the old platforms.

ERL will continue to use platform 1 and 4. The middle platforms 2,3 now don't serve any lines. ERL trains cannot use the middle platforms since the signaling system is different from WRL and TML.

其實紅磡站舊地面月台可以咁樣安排， 就係每當7月1日同10月1日有大人物(例如習近平主席)落黎香港需要封閉港島區嘅時候，預其關閉會展站，倒不如索性徹回以紅磡站舊地面月台做終站咪仲好?你地話係唔係
