On a walk through the forest, Jimmy and his magic flute Freddy are lured to Living Island and trapped there by the evil witch Witchiepoo and her trickery. The Mayor of Living Island, a friendly dragon named H.R. Pufnstuf, helps our young hero but Witchiepoo makes the Magic Path back to his home disappear.

H.R. Pufnstuf is the story of Jimmy, a boy with a talking golden flute named Freddy, whose adventure begins when he climbs into an abandoned sailboat on the shore of a lake. But little did Jimmy know that he is being set-up by Witchiepoo, the evil witch who wants his magic flute all to herself. Luckily though he is rescued by a kindly dragon named H.R. Pufnstuf, the Mayor of Living Island where almost everything talks. All would be happy, - what with dancing trees, singing frogs and a lollipop that owns a candy store- if it wasn’t for that mean ol’ Witchiepoo who keeps coming after the flute.

I am 59 years old too. I came to this country in 1970 and I used to watch these shows in a black-and-white TV. I didn’t know what they were saying but these shows are engraved in my heart and soul. God bless the USA.

And thus, the gold-standard of Krofft had been established. Honestly, I feel like the biggest casualty to Krofft budget cuts was switching from film to videotape; Krofft worlds are so vivid and colorful, and Living Island was captured so beautifully on film . . . Tranquility Forest, Lidsville, and others on videotape not so much.

I enjoyed this show as a child. Unfortunately, this isn't a "full episode." A scene was cut out when Jimmy talked to a hippie tree and then an Indian tree before the house sneezed. In a later scene, the east wind speaking isn't shown. :(
