N T Ramarao was a Telugu film actor who later became a politician and formed a regional political outfit named Telugudesham. His political party dethroned Congress from Andhra Pradesh in the 80s and 90s twice. As a film actor, N T Ramarao was so popular in Andhra Pradesh that his religious role-plays in films such as Lord Rama, Krishna & Vishnu were often box office hits. He, as a chief minister, started schemes such as 2 rupees per kg rice for BPL which became very popular in Andhra Pradesh but in the mid-nineties, his son-in-law N Chandrababu Naidu dethroned him from the party and chief ministership.
