This is a traditional song with an intriguing and interesting tale. It's said that the devil himself played the tune to lure the youth in Hårga, Sweden, to a mountain where they danced themselves to death to his enchanting music.

Wow, beautiful and impressive! Do NOT stop. Inte förrän du slått djävulen själv, i sitt eget 'spel'...ähum, så att säga!

Äntligen någon som spelar bara spelar låten som den är utan att överdriva, ändra för mycket, byta tempo osv. TACK!! Super snyggt spelat 🙂

This song is about the Devil, disguised as a travelling fiddler. The song puts the dancers in a trance, so they dance through the night and can't stop until they all fall dead, their feet reduced to bloody stumps.

Correct! Although the riddle is older than the composition. A very fascinating piece

Just found this. Saw it once before. You always manage to choose such beautiful and interesting tunes! And so brilliantly played. How many have you loaded altogether? I've got to 6, are there any more?

Wow this is amazing. May I play some of your beautiful music on an upcoming episode of my podcast? I am recording a handful of Scandinavian guests on topics from Icelandic folklore to blacksmithing, farming, hunting, archeology, and folk music. The podcast is called Our Numinous Nature and I will of course give credit and put links to your videos. Thank you!

Hello, me again, Lynette. I've decided to try Hargalaten on nyckel. I'll sort out using the bow better once I know a few tunes well. You play it in G minor it seems with flats and starting o the D. But it also exists in A minor with Sharp's and starting on the E. Is one easier than the other to play on the nyckel? Everyone with nyckelharpas seem to play the one you play starting with a D. Apparently A minor is easier for those that play the violin. Fingerwise. I've got to get the score printed out and photocopied bigger so I'd like to know which one to copy. I'm lucky I found it written out, I won't have to write down the music from memory. But it is well known.

Kinda reminds me of a hurdy gurdy with the clacking keys, also makes me want to hear this song covered on a hurdy gurdy
