For your pto shaft holder put a hitch pin in up through the bottom and set your pto on it

I ran a tight fitted pin in my tedder. Broke the top lip of the Tedder tongue running 7mph! Didn't end well when she stabbed into the ground while in operation. I think it needs a little wiggle room to keep from snapping when tractor drawbar works up and down and side to side.

I was thinking of using the 1” pin. That gives me 1/4” of play. Do you think that’s enough?
@waynechristopher1135

PA Farms I think that will work as long as your tractor drawbar height is pretty close to matching the Hitch angle of the Tedder tongue. Just keep a close eye on that weld around the top lip of the tongue!! I added a piece of 1/4 in bar steel to mine and haven't had any more issues. Also replace the Roll pins that hold the wheel assembly to the bottom of the basket with good bolts and locking nuts. Good luck man! I enjoy your videos a lot!!

@@waynechristopher1135 Yes, they need slop to compensate for the uneven terrain. Otherwise when the drawbar tilts one way and the hitch tilts the other, some things going to give/break. I'll wager the big pin in the video didn't bend from overwhelming load but from hitch binding on something. That tedder might be noisier than most machines with the small tires doing a bop and go in the stubble, causing the tedder to jerk side to side. A lot of ground engaging equipment use a double knuckle type hitch, even things like balers. Maybe the op could rig up something similar. I thought about car type driveshaft u-joint for a hitch adapter.

I am not sure why they put that big hitch pin hole there. It does bounce around some, but the hole on mine hasn't rounded out at all. I never really thought about it not having a jack, since we do a lot of road travel and have to crank it up after every use. Haven't had any flat tires yet either. If yours holds up as well as mine has, you will get a lot a reliable use out of it.

That’s good to hear. My other Tedder rattled around that much it drove me crazy. I started using earplugs. That one was the hitch rattling and there wasn’t anything you could do.

I look forward to seeing that thing in action the best part of a small Tedder is all your tractors can handle it and your more mobile.

Yea it’s not going to take much HP for it. Could use a compact tractor on it

what I do to help reduce the chattering of the draw bar is a piece of uhmw. I drill a hole in the middle the same size as my draw pin and they are about 5 inches round. I just use a whole saw to start then drill the center out. I use these on all my equipment.

I enjoy your videos. Especially when.you review things from a farmer/ mechanic view point. Instead of just blindly recommending stuff just cause it's by a certain manufacturer

We have a 30 year old Kuhn that is very similar. It still works well. Someone (not me) forgot to put it in working position and turned on the PTO. It bent one of the tine arms pretty good when it hit the tongue. Another time someone else did the same thing, this time it broke the small bevel gear above the star. I usually had to repair it though. Be careful I think yours might do the same thing. I notice that they fixed that problem on the new Kuhn ones by putting a big curve in the tongue.

I did look at a few used Kuhn tedders. I stayed away just because we don’t have a dealership nearby

Yeah, I have no idea what they were thinking on that hole for the hitch pin! Lol. Good job saving that $350, that's a bit deal!

So you guys must have flat land to want a tighter hole. Here in Perry co pa we have hills and need the slack in the pins. That’s how things get bent or twisted. Now if you had a swivel tongue then you a smaller hole would work.

Pretty sad with the cost of equipment these days that we have to modify it before we can use it lol. Different story if we buy used, then you almost expect to have to fix/modify it. Looking forward to seeing the tedder used. Have a great day.

3 point hitch pin adapters would be a cheap way to solve your hitch rattle cat3 is 1”1/4 and cat2 is 1” just a thought.

Yea that’s a great idea. The hole in the drawbar is 1” so I will try to get a 1” pin

Ya know, after looking at it, I will retract my previous "safety chain" for the adjustment handle. Instead get rid of that "holder", and just attach a chain to the mounting bracket. I'll suppose the handle will probably not move much, and the piece of dog chain will hold it great. I would also weld a piece of pipe over the hitch pin that matches the attachment hole. Seems simple enough.

I just realized it has a 1 year warranty on it. So I probably won’t do anything to it until next year.

Do you watch onelonleyfarmer videos? He always says you can use a big tractor for a little job, but you can't use a little tractor for a big job. That is probably the reason for the large hole in the hitch.

The way i look at it big hitch pin people are probably gonna put a bigger tractor on and tare the thing up. that crank deal just rap a bungee strap on it! other than that seems like a good machine too me. after you run it can you do a overview? im thinking about a tedder in the future id run it with the wd.

Lord help us, we're in the hands of engineers. LOL That's one of the sayings we've used where I work. You're right tho, those items are minor but, they are things that can be dealt with & improved upon. Stay safe.

I don’t think any Tedder I’ve seen is built very well. I just bought a fella and I’ve been told it’s a notch under a krone but even the krone seems light to me. I know they don’t need to be heavy built for what they do but it would be nice if they made them a little stronger in the hitch area at least. Even touching the hitch when turning would probably demolish the hitch on the best Tedder.

Yea I agree with that. Don’t know if you heard of ESCH Equipment? I think that’s how you spell it. Anyway I looked at one of them. They seem to be pretty strong. www.zimmermanfarmservice.com/inventory/?/listings/farm-equipment/for-sale/7476101/2018-esch-hay-equipment-4022?dlr=1&pcid=2960369&title=Tedder+
