This is a traditional piece performed surrounding the feast of Yom Kippur when all vows are accomplished or forgiven. Kol Nidre means "all vows". Yom Kippur is the holiest day in the Hebrew Calendar. Observers "afflict their souls", we fast all day, evening to evening as commanded in Torah.
